6th – New Unit: American Revolution

We are starting our next unit: the American Revolution.  How exciting (or revolting) of a unit of exploration.  Before beginning our unit though, it is important to see what the students know so lessons can be modified to meet their needs (for example, if they know everything about the American Revolution battles; we don’t need to spend much time looking at those).  Students will work to complete a classic KWL; what I know, what I want to know, and what I learn throughout this unit (linked here).

Next, in order to better understand the Revolution, we must first look at major events leading up to the Revolution.  For that, we are going to spend some time focusing on historical maps and their impact leading up to the Revolution.  We will begin this activity today and likely finish analyzing the maps post Spring Break (activity linked here).

The big skill we are focusing on is understanding more cause and effect.  Feel free to have a conversation with your student about what the major causes of historical events are (especially the Revolution).
