6th – Greek and Latin roots

After day one of our government creation, it quickly came to my attention some students just did not understand what we were doing.  Originally, students were to use Greek or Latin prefixes (well, words that were rooted in Greek or Latin) to create a name for our government.  Many of them struggled with this activity so I decided to try something different.

Today, students had to look up a few words in the dictionary (which for them, was predominately a foreign concept and many asked if we could just look it up online) with Greek or Latin roots.  They had to search the book, find words with those roots, and see that it is possible for different words with similar roots to mean similar things.
It was awesome to see some of their responses when searching for words (we focused on the following roots: pac, omni, quad, and gen).  Ask them about some of the words they found and what they mean.
