9/11 Discussion

For nearly every adult in this country (and around the world), 9/11 is an important date in our lives.  It is a day we all remember and is something entrenched in our shared experience.  We all share an unspoken bond as it relates to the events of that day.

For our students, they do not share this same connection.  They were born a decade too late.  That fact makes teaching today to be a difficult prospect: how do we share something so traumatic to an audience that might not understand?  Today we did just that.  We spent a large portion of our class discussing the basic informational details of the day (a lot of students wanted to know where I was at the time), as well as watching some news coverage of the event (feel free to watch the ten minute CNN10 episode, which does a great job).

I am certain that your child would like to continue the conversation with you about where you were, what you were doing, and any memories you have of the day.  Take this opportunity to connect with them and process the information (they will surprise you with their connections and repeatability; especially some of them as it relates to their experience with Covid).
