You only need to practice on the days that you eat! :)

Today fifth graders had the opportunity to practice for Junior Docent. Students and teachers visited our classroom to hear our Junior Docent presentations. Listening to the presentations again, seeing the confidence build in our 5th graders, and the awe and admiration from the younger students reminded me yet again of why I love MJDS.  It doesn’t matter what grade you’re in, or if you’ve taught a specific child or not- we (teachers and students) are all supportive of each other and feel a sense of pride when our kids are/feel successful.

Although the fifth graders were quite parched afterward, they all agreed that the extra practice helped build their confidence and allowed them the opportunity to be even more critical of themselves. Several students decided to make changes to their writing after receiving feedforward from peers — exactly what I was hoping would happen!

Please remind your child that he/she should be practicing each night at home. In addition, I could use your help to make sure that your child comes to school next Tuesday with his/her change of clothing. As mentioned earlier, students should bring “shabbat style” clothing to look his/her best at the Art Museum. This includes a change of shoes if necessary.

Lastly, I promised the kids I would mention this- In the past, some classes have joined together, after the program, for dinner or an ice cream treat. This is not sponsored by MJDS – parents have typically organized and shared the details with the class. Just something to think about!

As always, thank you for your continued support. I am looking forward to seeing all of you next week!

ELA Homework + Junior Docent

Hi,

Just a quick update! There are ZERO reading responses due between now and spring break. Instead, homework is to practice reading Junior Docent presentations AT LEAST twice each night between now and our special program at the museum next Tuesday, April 16.

Everyone worked diligently through the editing and revising process to be presentation ready! Now it is time to practice, practice, practice so that we feel comfortable speaking in front of others. We will spend class time learning more about public speaking. On Thursday and Friday, we will practice our presentations and showcase our hard work to peers and adults in the building.

I can’t wait to watch our kids shine!

Shabbat Shalom + a few Reminders and Requests :)

Fifth graders were on their feet today at Shabbat Sing! EVERY. SINGLE. fifth grader was up dancing and singing with ruach and joy! I look forward to this special time each week!

We are wrapping up our writing preparation for Junior Docent and will begin practicing public speaking next week! Your child should have come home with a yellow permission slip for this special event on Tuesday, April 16. We will be leaving school a bit early and meeting you at the museum. If you’d like siblings to take the bus with us, we need to know ASAP via the permission slip.

Thank you for attending student led conferences. It was a pleasure connecting with all of you. The growth your children have made is incredible; It was an honor to listen to them shine on Wednesday evening. I look forward to finishing the year off strong.

I am hoping to see all of you next Friday evening at the Pre-Passover Shabbat Dinner! My family and I will be joining and look forward to seeing many of you there.

Shabbat Shalom! Enjoy the *hopefully* beautiful weather this weekend!

Purim Field Trip next week!

I can hardly believe it is time to bust out our costumes for the MJDS Purim celebration! It will be an entire day full of silliness and yummy Hamentashen!

My favorite part of the MJDS Purim celebration is delivering mishloach manot (Purim baskets of goodies) around the city. This year, fifth grade has an extra special job. We have been chosen to deliver our mishloach manot to our local heros. This includes our firefighters and police officers as well as other service providers in the area. Because we will be making multiple stops, it seems to make the most sense for the fifth graders to drive in cars. We will split up between two cars with Gev. Broidy and Gev. Kimmel driving. Please let us know if this is an issue for you!

Chag Semach!

Junior Docent- Quickly Approaching- Save the date!

Geverets Porat and Kimmel

I’m back!

I was welcomed with a decorated classroom and endless hugs this morning! I loved every single second of my time home with Andrew, but missed your wonderful children and the MJDS community SO much!

I will spend the week transitioning back into the classroom to ensure a smooth and comfortable adjustment for the 5th and 6th graders. Gev. Petrova and I have been communicating frequently about your children; I am excited to see all of their growth and development for myself!

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or concerns.

Glad to be back!

🙂 Gev. Kimmel

Baby Kimmel…Arriving Soon!

With my due date quickly approaching, I wanted to share that this Friday will be my last day before I begin my maternity leave. As you know, Gev. Petrova, our WONDERFUL 6-8 grade ELA teacher will take my place while I am out. We have spent the last few weeks meeting to discuss where your children are, the structure of our class and how to continue moving your children forward. As I said to your children, despite her efforts to make the transition as smooth as possible, please expect some changes as Gev. Petrova is not me! That being said, I could not be more comfortable leaving knowing that my class will be in the best hands possible.

It has been a pleasure teaching your children thus far. Being a mom is the best thing in the world but I know I’ll be checking in frequently to see how your kiddos are doing….I miss them already!

If you have any questions about the transition, please feel free to contact Gev. Petrova, Adon Lippman, or Gev. Broidy.
