Gathering Reminder — Monday Service Trip

This e-mail went home earlier in the week- please contact Adon Kaufman with any questions and/or concerns!
Dear 5th Grade Parents,
On Monday, December 11the entire 5th grade class will be visiting and working at The Gathering, which is an organization that provides breakfast for those in need in Milwaukee.  This organization serves a population that predominately suffers from homelessness, mental health issues, and a range of other debilitating issues.  It is our responsibility as citizens and Jews to help take care of those in need (for those worried, The Gathering does have on staff multiple security guards in case any situation does arise).  We will be preparing the breakfast meal and then helping to serve to those that come.
It is expected each child attends our twice a year visit to The Gathering.  We will have two times in which we are leaving school: 6:30 am and 8:00 am.  I cannot mandate any child arrives before school begins, but those able to arrive early will be given a task when we arrive at The Gathering of actually preparing the meal whereas those arriving later will only be given the opportunity to serve the meal.  It is incredibly worthwhile for students to arrive early to The Gathering so as to help prepare the meal.  Otherwise, if a student cannot arrive before school begins, they will be transported to The Gathering and arrive just in time to serve the meal.
In order to better facilitate transportation and know of all student’s plans, please complete the attached survey by the end of the day on Friday, December 8.  This will allow me to better organization transportation to and from The Gathering (which is the same location mind you as St. Ben’s, on 9th street).  We will be leaving from MJDS at both times and once we are completed serving at 10:00 am, we will return to school and resume classes at 10:30.  You are all encouraged (if your child approves) to attend and participate as well.  After I receive responses, I will contact select parents to inquire about transportation availability.
Thank you,
Noah Kaufman
