LP Convo:

Continuing to further tighten up the beginning of class procedures, looking at conferencing skills.

What questions can I ask students that will show me their work to make sure they are meeting or approaching expectations?

How can I as the teacher, facilitate positive, constructive, conferences in the classroom?

Revisit lessons from this year. What went well? What didn’t? How can I change them for next time?

Continuing reflection: How can I make sure student teacher talking is 70/30? How can I engage each student at different paces? How can I aid those who are struggling best? What skills am I focusing on moving forward?

10/7/19

LP convo:

On Monday’s Dacy and I talk about what my lessons for the week look like. Today we discussed the format of research and summarization, and how to make sure the kids can connect the two visually as well as academically. We also discussed making sure I am slowing down with the students work and instruction, and how to adjust based on the schedule in October.

Continuing Reflection questions: How can I make sure I am slowing down and scaffolding enough for student understanding and application?

How can I make sure students can visually connect the work they are doing?

LP Convo:

Looking at continuing to plan backwards for next unit starting tomorrow. Final assessment will be a DBQ which will be less structured from beginning of unit DBQ’s.

Reflecting: How can I best process the materials the students need to assess their skills .

Date: 2/28/19

LP Convo:

Routines, discussion, and management have improved. Continue being consistent with consequences for students who misbehave/do not follow student expectations.

Reflecting: How can I best connect with students who are not following expectations?

ALWAYS REMAIN CONSISTENT.

Date: 2/21/19

LP Convo:

Looked at lessons for next week and discussed the end of this unit. Decided this unit will end with the current topic of slavery, and then we will do a revision for students to do a final assessment in which they answer the essential question. Beginning to plan the next unit and working on working backwards from a major assessment I want students to complete.

Reflecting:

How can I best assess students in our next unit?

How can the skills I have taught thus far continue to be used and strengthen other skills in the classroom?

What is the best way to not only teach my students but to continue to plan out and use my learning objectives/standards?

Date: 2/14/19

LP Convo:

Talked about observed management in class today. Much improved but working on strategies such as pulling students out to have side conversations as opposed to calling them out in class.

Reflection: focusing on one on one contact with kids who are struggling and using that to aid them, noticing more focus in general in the classroom and students responding more to classroom management tactics.

Date: 1/17/19

Using planning template to structure lessons with aligned standards to ensure student and teacher success

Using graphic organizers in combination with note taking and research skills to guide student learning throughout the beginning of our unit

Giving the students something new to be focusing on but continuing with same skills or topic for longer periods of time while still structuring materials

Learning Partner Conversation:

  • how to best manage juggling moving parts
  • connect w/ co-teacher for planning

  • Essential question about the colonies: How did the creation of the colonies impact the development of the country?
  • Why are we talking about the 13 colonies? How did they help develop our country? Why is it still important? Why do we talk about this? (questions for first and last day reflection) This is what I used to think, this is what I think now
  • KWL first day warm up, discussion (questions above),
  • 2 assessments (tests) one is answering essential question. One pager? Take home test?
  • create graphic for kids for research, what it means in your own words, questions you have about this?

Explicit Examples in Student Work (when applicable):

Throughout this year I have been working on various different things to improve my teaching. With Dacy’s help I have been able to develop my daily management into warm up- mini lesson-student work which as not only helped me, but helped the students significantly. Most recently Dacy and I talked about breaking down projects into even smaller chunks than previously done. This is my current focus moving forward to ensure student success.
