Sea Lamprey and Parch Dissection

For the last two weeks, we have been dissecting Sea Lamprey and Perch and there were some, differences. The Sea Lamprey smelled really bad and the perch had all the eggs in one spot but the lamprey had them all over the place. The lamprey had a suction cup mouth with sharp teeth white the perch had no sharp teeth. The perch was farmed while the lamprey was caught off fish.

Science Reflection

  • What are you looking forward to this year in science?

I am looking forward to more labs because they are more engaging and fun so I will be more helpful and excited for since.

  • What is something you want to work on moving forward?

Something I want to work on is not taking over and doing everything because I can sometimes try to do everything on my own and I mess up and make others feel bad. What I am going to do is try not to be the “team leader” and take control.

Mapping Energy Transfers

This week in science we have been focusing on mapping energy transfers. We discussed the transfer of energy on a roller coaster, when lighting a match, when using a pull back car toy, the list goes on and on. Below you will see an energy transfer and the why/how behind it.

Object or thing I choose to observe:

I chose to observe the water generator which is sorta like a thing that when you put in water that’s running it like makes the propellers move which will charge your phone.

The mapping of the energy transfers:

the energy transfers are motion because you have to put it in the water then it is moving again because the water is moving the propellers is chemical energy because It will charge your phone.

A paragraph that explains the how and why of each step of the energy transfer(s) I observed:

Energy starts off with motion then you put in the water its motion again For the water. Next is the propellers they are moving so it’s motion because the propellers are moving which makes chemical energy which will later charge your phone.

Plant Observations in Organlic and Inorganic Material

Throughout our science unit we have been focusing on organic and inorganic material. As an experiment, we decided to compare the growth of a bean seed in organic material vs inorganic material. We developed hypotheses and predicted what type of material our bean seeds would grow best in. Over the past three weeks we have observed our bean seeds once or twice a week to see how they are changing and growing. Below are my observations I noticed today. Here is a picture of my bean seed growing in organic material:

Here is a picture of my bean seed growing in inorganic material:

My observations about my bean plant that is growing in organic material are……
It grows alot better in organic material.
My observations about my bean plant that is growing in inorganic material are…..

It looks unhealthyand shrivled.
Conclusion: I think the plants grew better in organic material because of these reasons:
  1.It is natraul material
 2. It has good minarauls and vitamins.
