SLBC Experiance

My SLBC (Song Leader Boot Camp) experience was amazing. I learned so many new things such as leadership, new songs, ways we can elevate T’fillah. I am so grateful that I got to go and I would go again! The Shabbaton was a whole new experience for me and I was surprised as to how many songs there were. The real conference started on Sunday and we also met the two other day schools in our Chavurah. The day school track had different options than the other tracks and I thought that was great. I would have liked to have more options, but everyone there was so flexible and so kind that we could go to a different elective if we wanted to.  I had a great time there and it was so great to be surrounded by other Jewish people who enjoyed Jewish music and enjoyed T’fillah. I am really excited to be able to make a difference at MJDS and take what I learned at SLBC and apply it here at MJDS.

Reflection on Holocaust

I used to think that the Holocaust was just murders against the Jews. I also didn’t realize how horrendous it was, I knew it was bad, but no that bad because I never saw pictures of human bodies like that. I also used to think that ghettos were just a place to “store” the Jews while they were waiting to go to the concentration camp. I didn’t know that it was a concentration camp before a concentration camp. I didn’t know how important the Jewish resistance was and how it gave others hope. Like I knew it happened, but not how important it was.

I now know that the Holocaust was a murdering against others like homosexuals, gypsies etc. I now realize how badly they were treated, how much they were starved and deprived of everything. I can’t believe that they look like skeletons they literally didn’t look like humans anymore. I now know that the Nazi’s put Jews in charge of the ghettos and even in charge of the work blocks in the concentration camp. I now know that the Jews had to walk from concentration camp to concentration camp when other armies were advancing.

Prototypes of Prototype

1. What actions have you taken in order to figure out what your final design might be?

We really like the initial design of your mini model. We made the measurements and put together a list of materials that we think would be best for our building. We added more to our prototype by looking at other building designs that we liked.
2. Explain your design plan.

We are going to have the 16×16 base that is given to us. Then we are going to put a 10×10 for the building base. On top of that, we were thinking of putting some sort of sponge to help absorb the impact of the brick that is going on top and what would be the waves. Then we would put another 10×10 but with springs instead. After that, we would put another 10×10 but in a way that we would be able to start bracing. On top we were thinking of attaching a pole type thing so that the roof would collapse as easily.
3. What factors did you use to finalize your design?

The design isn’t finalized yet, but that is what Levi and I were thinking of in class today and trying to figure out the details for.
4. What challenges might you encounter? How will you solve these challenges?

The gluing process may be hard because we would need to glue the skewer type thing to a block of wood so it isn’t hanging. We will work our way around it and find other ways to make our building successful.

Earthquake Prototype Initial Thinking and Ideas

1. Describe your initial thinking and ideas for your design.

We want to make a design that can resist an earthquake. We did some research on the different ways we can brace the building and how materials can absorb the pressure of the waves and the earthquake.
2. What challenges do you anticipate having when constructing your prototype? How will you work through these challenges?

I thought it would be hard to capture everything we needed into this prototype.
3. What about your thinking, learning or work today brought you the most satisfaction? Why?

The fact that we can find answers online and put them into our project is satisfying. Also seeing the prototype Levi made, is great because we are making progress while knowing there is still mero to add.
4. Describe one way you have connected and collaborated well with your partner.

I helped him with the first part of the research and I showed him some of the ideas I had last year. I think we work well together because we both share our ideas with detail.
5. Describe one way in which you can improve upon your collaboration?

It would have helped if I was here, but now I can help him with all the extra stuff, like materials and the building process. Also, I am here so I can get more information.
