Rapunzel Planning Reflection

How did spending more time on planning improve your final blueprint? I helped because we were able to get more ideas and solutions. Also make sure everybody’s voice was heard.

How did your group come to one final plan after brainstorming several ideas? We combined all our Ideas together. Also went over each of our ideas and came up with our idea.

Why do you think taking more time to plan was important? I gave us more time to think about the challenge. Also brainstorm more ideas and dive into detail for the ideas.

Did brainstorming with multiple people help you come up with more ideas? How? Yes because it made me think about more ideas. Also spreed my ideas to my group mates.

What would you differently during the planning process next time? I would make sure everybody is hearing because sometimes we cut each other of in the middle of someone talking.

Reflecting on ETC

How have you changed as a group member this year in ETC? I have changed by moving from me to we because I’m  doing better at communicating with my group. I’m being more kind with my group members.

How has working in ETC made you a better student in other classes? (Social Studies, ELA, Jewish Studies, Hebrew, Math, Science) I’m doing a better job communicating with my group members by letting them talk and learning there ideas and working with them.

Thinking about my blog posts, I have improved by…. I have improved by I put more detail in my blog posts.

In the future, I plan to improve my blog posts by…. My plan is to get better at writing the blog post and making sure it’s my best work.

Cup Holder Challenge

Today’s Challenge: Using only provided materials ( 6 straws, 1 piece of paper, a piece of tinfoil, 12 inches of masking tape, 2 paperclips, 2 pieces of string, 1 envelope, and 2 pipe cleaners)  create a structure that holds two cups as high as possible and as far apart as possible.

Teamwork Rubric Focus:

My goal for participation today while working in my group is… My goal is to not get so controlling because I know when I get mad I get in control.

My Individual Plan <insert photo of sketch and/or type out plan>  My plan is to make a bridge will the tinfoil and hold it up with paper tubes and tape or paper clip it together.

Why I think my plan will be successful: I think my plan with be successful because I have made paper tubes before and it held a egg drop.

My Groups Plan <insert photo or sketch and/or type out plan> My groups plan is  to take the paper cut it in half and make paper tubes then take the envelope on it as a table then take the tinfoil to make a bowl for the cup.

We chose this plan because it is all of our plans together.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction Maybe not agreeing mu come up.

Each group member will be responsible for… M and O were responsible for building the scupcher.

After the Build

<insert photo of completed chain>

Our design worked well because it was the tallest in the class and we worked together to make the design  stand up.

This activity was challenging because M and O worked but L wasn’t working with us even though we tried to include him.

This activity was comfortable because we worked together to build it and it worked.

I met my participation goal by not getting mad and not getting in control.

A strength of my team was making sure we combined our ideas instead of one persons idea.

An area of growth for my team is making sure every body is in the project.

For our next challenge, my new participation goal for myself is not getting mad and in control.

Paper Chain Challenge

Today’s Challenge: Using only provided materials (two pieces of construction paper, 1 pair of scissors, 1 ruler and one 12-inch strip of masking tape) create the longest paper chain possible.

Teamwork Rubric Focus:

My goal for teamwork today is… y goal is to work with my group, talk to them so we can work together and try not to get so controlling because I know sometimes it to controlling.

My Individual Plan <insert photo of sketch and/or type out plan> My plan it to take the paper and roll  it up and take a little piece of tape and make a chain and take a longer piece of paper and tape it and make it longer.

Why I think my plan will be successful: I think it will be good because its going to be longer.

My Groups Plan <insert photo or sketch and/or type out plan> Our groups plan is to take the paper roll  and take a little piece of tape and make a chain and take a longer piece of paper and tape to make it longer.

We chose this plan because it will make it longer and its an idea that we decided on and worked together on.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction… Possible challenges might be deciding who has what job.

Each group member will be responsible for… B is responsible for building the chain S is responsible for cutting the paper and O is responsible for cutting the tape in small pieces.

After the Build

<insert photo of completed chain>

Our design worked well because… We made a 195-inch chain and we worked together to make it.

This activity was challenging because… We had a limit to tape and it was hard to make the chain.

This activity was comfortable because… We work together  to make the chain.

I met my teamwork goal by… Not being in control and we worked together.

A strength of my team was…. Working together.

An area of growth for my team is… Nothing

For our next challenge, my new teamwork goal for myself is…. not get in control and work together.

PinBall Marble Run Challenge

Essential Question: Can my group successfully plan, design and build a paper plate pinball/marble run using only the provided materials?

Goal: Move the marble from one end of the plate to the other, having the marble travel through at least three obstacles.

My teamwork/communication goal for this challenge:  Our goal is to make the ball  to go through the obstacles.

Step 1: Brainstorm

Look at the supplies table. You may NOT take anything from the table yet.

You may only take ONE plate and ONE marble. There are no other requirements. You will have 15 minutes to build.

What ideas do you have? We should take pipe cleaners and make a path and take toilet paper rolls and make paths.

Your group has shared all of your ideas. Before you can start building, what is your actual plan?

  • What will your marble run look like? (draw a sketch & insert photo here)
  • How will you make sure all members of the group are included in the building process? We will make different parts in the building.

Build and test

  • Insert a few photos of the building process here

Reflect

What was comfortable about the challenge/teamwork?  We all worked on different parts on the project.

What was difficult about the challenge/teamwork? I think it was difficult to work together because we would just all talk at the same time and didn’t work together that much.

How did the teamwork rubric help your group today? I didn’t help a lot because we weren’t working together that much.

Is there anything you would change about the teamwork rubric after going through this challenge? I wouldn’t really change anything.

How did you support your team today? I helped make the plate.

What might you do differently during our next team challenge? I might try not to be so controlling.

What makes a Team Work

Today’s essential question: What makes a team work?

Why is it important to develop the capacity to work as a member of a team? It is important because you’re going to work with people in life and you should learn how.

What areas of teamwork do you find easiest and why?  I think the easiest part is the working together because even though some times groups don’t work together that well most groups do.

What areas of teamwork do you find most challenging and why? I think the most challenging part is picking parts because some people want the same part in the groups and so people might get in a fight because they want the same part.

What difference does it make if you are able to play a role in the development of assessment tools? It will make me not learn anything because i’m not participating.

In what way(s) do you connect this work to our Core Values: Wonder, Empathy & Tikkun Olam

You have to have empathy for your group mates. You wonder about different questions.  Learning from others and being respectful of you community.

Lego Duck Challenge

Today I worked through two different challenges in a small group. The first challenge required me to work with my partners to build a duck out of legos in 4 minutes. The second challenge was a brain teaser where we had to solve a bunch of questions within 7 minutes.

Here is a picture of my duck:

After The duck Challenge:

What went well for my team regarding teamwork…

We all worked together and each person had a separate thing to do.

What went well for my team while completing the actual task…

First we came up with an idea and then each of us came up with ideas and we tried each idea and then combined them into the idea that worked best.

What was challenging for my team in terms of teamwork…

It was hard for us to agree on which idea to use.

What I would do differently…

I would come up with a strategy first and then start building instead of just reaching in the lego bin and start pulling out a whole bunch of legos.

After the Brain Teaser:

What went well for my team regarding teamwork…

We all decided to come up with ideas and tried to allow everyone’s voice to be heard.

What went well for my team while completing the actual task…

We didn’t complete the whole task but of the tasks we completed we worked well together to get two out of the six tasks done.

What was challenging for my team in terms of teamwork…

We didn’t understand the task so we had different opinions of how to complete the tasks.

What I would do differently…

Try to understand it better, ask more questions.

When working in groups this year, I hope that…

My group can actually work together instead of some of my group members doing the work and other group members just sitting in the background talking and not working.
