Cereal Box Challenge

Step 1-Challenge Information/Goals:

Today’s Challenge: Create a new kind of cereal and its box. Using a piece of poster board, you and your team need to create your own box, with the goal of having the largest possible volume.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Participation)

My goal for participation today within my team is:

My goal is to make sure everyone feels involved and have an equal share of what we are doing.Maybe we can have team roles so that its easier to come up with roles for everyone?

Step 2-Planning:

My Individual Plan:

My idea is to cut the paper in half and then kind of curve it up and tape it to the other piece of paper which I will also curve up.

Why I think my plan will be successful:

I think my plan will be successful because the paper probably wont tear this way because we arent cutting up the paper into such little pieces that its so thin. Also it will have a big volume because it will be super tall and wide, because you are curving up the paper,it will stay better and then it will be tall.

Our Group’s Plan:

First we will cut the paper in half and then draw our design on both pieces. Then we will roll both pieces up and tape them into the shape of a circle then tape those two circles together. Then we will name our cereal “potatOes”.

We chose this plan because:

We compromised our ideas this way and it will be super tall which is what we are going for.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction:

The paper may be smaller than we think it is and we may run our of tape due to not being careful with our usage of it.

Each team member will be responsible for:

One team member will document, another will draw and fold the paper in half, and I will cut and tape everything together.

Step 3-Pictures/Reflection:

After the Build:

Front:

Back:

Our design worked well because:

It worked well because there were a lot of drawings in it and it was super colorful like the teachers told us to make it. Also, our group won first place for volume which was super cool(not trying to brag)!

This activity was challenging because:

At first,it was hard to think of how we could round up our paper because it kind of kept on not staying put while we were trying to tape it down. But, then one of my partners had a good idea of how to shape the papers which you can see in the pictures above.

This activity was comfortable because:

Our group worked really well together because we never complained if we werent doing anything, but instead helped each other out and we didnt fight with each other.Lastly,we always checked with each other to make sure what we were doing was ok and getting feedforward from each other.

I met my teamwork participation goal by:

I met it beacuse we all checked with each other to see what roles we wanted and if that was ok with each other.

A strength of my team was:

We were very good at communicating with each other about what we wanted to do and if something didnt work out,we improvised and all had great ideas!

An area of growth for my team is:

Maybe next time we could spend a little less time on the visuals(although thats important)so we could have more time to work on other components of the challenge. So maybe to be a little more aware of time.Plus, space out our time a bit better.

For our next challenge, my new teamwork participation goal for myself is:

Maybe try something new that I havent done before(in terms of group roles) so maybe instead of taking the pictures again,I could try to draw or write something.

Index Card Challenge

Step 1-Introduction/Goals:

Today’s Challenge: Using only an index card and a scissors find a way to cut your index card so you can fit your entire body through it.

Teamwork Rubric Focus: Organization/Planning

My goal for organization/planning today within my team is:

My goal is to keep track of all my materials and divide equally among the group what we are going to do and what our roles are.

Step 2-Planning:

My Individual Plan :

My plan is to cut up the pieces of paper into small strips that are pretty thin, but still not tear the paper. Then we will cut a mini hole in each strip of paper and then connect it to another strip of paper since the strip of paper will go into the hole.Lastly, then we will tie up the strips of paper together.

Why I think my plan will be successful:

I think my plan will be successful because it will be super long because the paper will be cut thin, but it wont break because it wont be too thin. I think the hole part will be succesful because that way the paper can connect with other paper and then it will start to form a circle that way which is what were going for because the person has to fit into it and this way they can.

Our Group’s Plan:

We will cut the paper into strips but they will still be connected to each other so its like a big zig-zag.(We chose this plan after about 5 minutes into the building stage of this project)

We chose this plan because:

Its very strechy and you fit it to your size and it compromises all of our ideas because my idea was to connect them alltogether and my other partners plan was to make a big circle and my last partners plan was this exact plan which uses up all of our ideas.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction:

The paper might tear from being a little too thin and we may not be a able to finish in the amount of time given(10 minutes).

Each team member will be responsible for:

To be honest we didnt have enough time to make group roles, we were not fighting with each other, but we just couldnt figure out which idea to use until after the timer started.

Step 3-Pictures/Reflection:

Here is a Picture of Our Final Product:

Our design worked well because:

Our design worked well because it was pretty stretchy and it looked really awesome because it was all squiqly!

This activity was challenging because:

It was challenging because we never even got to write down our actual plan until after the challenge was over and we didnt even agree/decide on a plan unitl 5 minutes into the project.I feel that this happened because we didnt all hear each other ideas fully and wernt very focused so then we were confused on what our plan was.

This activity was comfortable because:

It was comfortable because once we just started to build something, we didnt exactly know what but we all felt that the challenge was fun because there is no right or wrong design. Also, when we all failed and things didnt work out, we all just laughed and had a good time!

I met my teamwork organization/planning goal by:

I met my goal because I kept track of all my materials (which was pretty easy since it was just a piece of paper and scissors). I didnt meet it in the way that everyone got something to do because a lot of the time, it was just one of my teamates doing all the work which wasnt their fault, sicne again we didnt all communicate very well.

A strength of my team was:

I think we were all good at differnt things, for example one of my teammates is good at art, so they could make the actual design. Another one was good at improvising and I was good at documenting with pictures.

An area of growth for my team is:

We could maybe communicate better with each other next time and compromise a little bitt better with each other.

For our next challenge, my new teamwork organization/planning goal for myself is:

Maybe have a time limit for each of us to share our ideas in and the have the rest of the time to try and compromise all of our ideas together. Also, just being on the same page with each other about things.

Why are Midterm Elections Important?

What do Midterm Elections decide in the government?

They decide who the new goverement will be for the next few years and it will also decide if the society will be more democratic or more republican.

How are citizens impacted by Midterm Elections?

They are impacted in the way that the new goveremnt chooses a lot of the choices for them and its up to them to vote for what they want and believe in. Although, sometimes as we learned in class, there are times when the goverment just decides whats going to happen without your opinion.

What can citizens do to get people they want elected?

They can vote and tell others who to vote for. They can do this by convincing others to vote with evidence that the canidate has said themselves so you know its true(hopefully).

Why do Midterm Elections exist?

They exist so that different people can have a chance to run and say and do what they want to change and also to maybe change if the society will be democratic or republican.

Why is it important for different groups of people to run for government positions?

So that they can change what they feel is wrong or not equal to them and make others realize that they are equal and have rights as well because people may not even realize what is wrong but this way they will. I think that its also great to have diversity as well so that you can get to know other nations and what their traditions are and you could learn from them as well.
