Egg Drop Challenge

This is my design 2nd design this is an improvement over the first design.

How does your prototype protect the egg? The wooden rods break the fall of the egg, because the kinetic energy has to go some where and the rods are where the kinetic energy is supposed to go.
Describe your design process, in detail. First, I made a few sketch’s on a piece of paper. Second, my partner and I chose which apparatus’s we liked the most. Then, we made the first design. After that, I decided that I wanted to make my apparatus smaller after the first one succeeded almost every time. Lastly, I discovered that it went over the 25 cm by 25 cm by 25 cm limit so I tried to cut the size down and failed. On the last day I succeeded in making it smaller.

What worked well in your design? The wooden sticks worked very well. There wasn’t even a hairline fracture in the egg. The second design worked well, too. The balloons worked in breaking the fall.
What was challenging throughout this process? What would you do differently? The challenge was when I found out that my apparatus was to big. I had to measure then cut all the wooden rods protruding out of my apparatus.  I would measure my apparatus before the last day.

Og’s Great Adventure Reflection

  • What did you notice or observe during the challenge?  It was difficult because we only did the work on 1 computer.

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)? I did not ask any questions to myself except why are we doing this.

  • When did you first begin drawing connections between the different puzzles and pictures?

When we clicked on the word lock link.

  • What were those connections?

That the word lock was going to be very difficult.

  • What were your biggest clues?

There were abnormally sized spaces for letters.

  • What was the most challenging?

Finding the word lock.

  • What was your biggest ah-ha moment? Why?

When I found out how to decipher the word lock.

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

We used all of the materials that were on the packet.

Here is a picture of my plan:

Here is a picture of my first attempt at the building process:

it was our plan except without a top.

While you test:

What are you noticing?

We have to work everything. There is nothing she can do by herself.

What things are working?

The tower is standing up and sturdy.

What things are not working?

The rope is coming off and the slime is hard as a rock.

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

I would make something else that isn’t made out of the slime.

Do you need any new materials? If so, WHY?

Yes, I need any materials that would make the other thing because I don’t want to make anything out of the slime.

What is your new plan? My new plan is to make a tower out of wood, make Rapunzel out of tin foil, braid our rope for Rapunzel to make thicker, make a slide out of our old tower.

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

It is more sturdy and it is more realistic.

Hannukah Blog Post

We were supposed to make a Hannukah card for math. This was no ordinary Hannukah card that you write thought. We had to code it on a website called Scratch. The scratch programming really confusing and I didn’t really get it. I am not a pro at scratch but not a noob a am a beginner but a good beginner.  The challenging part was coding all the letters. The easy part was to make all the costumes. https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/268496849/.   There are no instructions just click adobe flash player and your set.

Boat Challenge Day 2

First, we took the carton of a pint of milk. Second, we put the hole in the carton on its side. Third, we marked holes on its sides for the chopsticks. Then, we put a rubber band on the boat. Lastly, we put the paddle in and let it go! We tried three times 2 were successes and 1 fail. I thought we would fail more.
