In our class, we are doing a book club. My book club group is reading a book called Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan. In this book, their mother died right after Caleb, Anna’s little brother, was born. Their father sent out an add in the newspaper saying that he needed a wife. A plain and tall woman named Sarah sent back a letter to him and said that she was coming for a month. When she came, Caleb, Anna and their father liked Sarah. Sarah taught Caleb how to swim, and Papa built a dune in their barn. I like this book because of the way she used the words. For example, instead of saying, ‘Nick, our cat went by my legs,’ she said, ‘I felt a brush by my legs. It was Nick’. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book.

I like that wonderful imagery! So descriptive! Are there more examples? Did that give you ideas for your own writing?

There are more examples, but I can’t think of them right now. It didn’t give me ideas for my book though.
