Roller Coaster Lab Write Up

Roller Coaster Lab Write Up

Key Terms and Concepts:

  • Potential energy (stored energy) is the highest point in the Roller Coaster.
  • Kinetic energy (energy of motion) is when the highest point of the Roller Coaster Drops.
  • Conservation of energy (basic law of physics) is Energy that can’t be destroyed.
  • Gravity is a something that attracts an object to something that’s physical.
  • Velocity is the Speed of something going in a certain direction.
  • Friction is something that makes something else go slower than it would have gone faster than it would go if it was on something like a floor that wouldn’t have Friction on it because of the action of one surface or object rubbing against another.
  • Slope (rise/run)  is when a surface of which one end or side is at a higher level than another; a rising or falling surface.

The relation between Potential and Kinetic energy is that both of them start at the highest point of the Roller Coaster.

Materials I used:
The Materials that I used are Noodles, 1 Marble and Tape. I used the Noodles to make the Roller Coaster. I used the Marble to be the people that would be the riding the Roller Coaster. I used the Tape to tape the Roller Coaster together.

Here is the Summary of my project:

My partner and I went through many different ideas of what we should do. Our ending idea ended up failing (Just Like all of our other ideas), but my partner and I ended up learning a lot from all of our fails because F.A.I.L Equals 1st Attempt In Learning.

What starting height was needed for the marble to make it through the loop most of the time?
I don’t know what the measurements are for the starting height of the Roller Coaster so I’m just going to write this: The starting height couldn’t really be diagonal because my partner and I wanted 2 loops so we needed a lot of Velocity.
What can you determine about the relationship between potential energy and kinetic energy?
The Relationship between Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy is that they both included some speed in them.

Rube Goldberg

Is your machine completed? My groups Rube Goldberg Machine is not completed, but my group is very close to completing our Rube Goldberg Machine.

How many transfers do you have? I believe that my groups Rube Goldberg Machine has 4 Energy Transfers.

Have you tested what you do have? Yes, my group and I have tested our Rube Goldberg Machine. But sometimes it works, and sometimes, it doesn’t. But isn’t that what building a Rube Goldberg is all about (Not giving up, right)?

What materials do you still need? I do not think that my group needs anymore materials.

Have you double checked your rubric to make sure you have met all the requirements? Yes, I believe I have.

Are you concerned about not being completed on time? Why or why not? Have you communicated this to your teachers? I am a little concerned that my group and I will not finish on time because we haven’t completely figured out what is going to hit the dominoes (Which starts the rube Goldberg).

Impact of a Pharaoh

Which Pharaoh did you study? Ramses 2.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your pharaoh? Why did you find this to be so interesting? The most interesting fact was that our Pharaoh had 200 children and 75 wives.

What was the most challenging aspect of research while studying your pharaoh? Why? The most challenging aspect of research while studying was probably that we didn’t have that much time to work on it so I personally, I kind of felt rushed.

What was the most challenging aspect of working with a partner throughout this project? Why? My partner and worked pretty good together. I think that we worked good together was probably because we both were on task the whole time.

What do you still wonder about your pharoah or about pharaohs in general? I still wonder that when they are traveling to the Underworld how they read out of the Book Of The Dead?

Memoir Update

We’ve been working on writing memoirs in ELA for the past few weeks. Here is an update of what I’ve accomplished/learned at each stage of the writing process.

The part of the writing process for memoirs that has been the most comfortable for me has always been Drafting because Drafting is when you get to write your 1st version of your story beginning to end.

The part of the writing process for memoirs that has been the most challenging for me has always been Selecting because I have a big imagination which helps me come up with a bunch of great Idea’s which makes it really hard to choose which idea I want to write about. But I still love my imagination.

Immersion

I’ve learned the characteristics of a memoir include: All Memoirs are memories. Most Memoirs are very short stories. Most Memoirs focus on small moments in your life.

I think the characteristic I really want to focus on in my writing is when I was playing the drums when I was 2 years old and when I hit a grand slam in a playoff game because both of those memories are very valuable and I will remember them for the rest of my life.

My favorite memoir mentor text was… because the author…

I don’t really have a favorite memoir mentor text because none of the memoir books that we read in class were very interesting.

Generating Ideas/Selecting

Why do you want to share this idea/story with others? I want to share them because I think that they are good idea’s.

What emotions do you want your reader to feel as they read your memoir? I want their emotions to be excited and I want to put them suspense.

Drafting

Here is my first draft:

P.S sorry that it’s not complete in the picture because the rest of the story was going around a whole different story.

One thing I think I did really well is put the reader in suspense because at the end I think that it is very exciting.

As I head into editing and revising, one thing I want to focus on is making my story more exciting because then the reader will enjoy it more.

Stay tuned for another post soon as I work on revising my first draft. If you have any SHE (specific, helpful, empathetic) feedback, please leave it as a comment!
