If I were on SNAPS…

1. What is SNAPS? Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. SNAPS provides food supplements to poorer people that need extra help obtaining food.

2. What is the average monthly benefit for someone on SNAPS? $154

3. On average, I spend 1209.60 on food per month.

4. My life would be different if I were on SNAPS because… I wouldn’t be able to spend nearly as much on food as I do now. I would be much more poor meaning I would not have good health, education, or house. This would make life a lot more challenging.

  1. It’s great that you’re learning about this! Next time we go to the grocery store you can see how far (or not far) SNAPS goes.
And, including Costco, our weekly budget is probably more than $300… which doesn’t even account for the tons of food/staples we already have in the house. How fortunate we are to not have to worry about where our next meal will come from. And, how important it is for us to help others. What do you think we could do?

  2. Please add some detail to your first question. Don’t just tell me what SNAPS stands for, but tell me what it does. Additionally, add a bit more detail for your question 4. Aside from the obvious of not being able to afford what you do, how else does your life change? Think about your health, family, education…
