For my math test I had a study plan. My study plan was to slow down and check my place value. I think I did well and I checked almost every problem with multiplication. I think that my plan was helpful because it made me check my work. I like my study plan very much.

Today the 3rd and 4th grades went to see the musical Matilda.

The kid who played Matilda was very, very, good!                                                                                                                                I thought the musical was better than the book and the movie!

DON’T READ THIS IF YOU DON’T WANT ME TO SPOIL PART OF THE MUSICAL!

My favorite part was when Matilda finds out that the story she tells to Miss Phelps is Miss Honey’s real past!

I definitely recommend it!

Reflection

1. Write a short (1-2 sentence) summary of your idea to improve Milwaukee Jewish Day School.

2. How do you feel your presentation went?

         I think it went well but I would have wanted more time to talk about how we were going to present together.

3. How did you feel during your presentation?

          I felt like we were presenting about something that is important and can help the school. I also felt that we had an idea that we could actually do that would not be a lot of money or very hard working to get there.

4. What was it like to be asked hard questions by your classmates?

I liked that my classmates asked me questions because it gave me a feeling of what they feel about our idea.

5. What was it like to be asked hard questions by Gev. Denny and Adon Lippman?

It was not hard to talk in front of Gev. Denny and my dad because: 1 Gev. Denny was not even there for my presentation and 2 because I was presenting to my dad.

6. How do you think Abraham felt after arguing with God about Sodom and Gomorrah?

I think he felt AWESOME because he could possibly save two cities and did not get killed by G-d

7. Compare how you felt presenting your idea to how Abraham might have felt debating with God.  How do you think you felt similar? How do you think you felt different?

I felt the same  as Abraham because we were proposing something to someone who has power to make something change in the school. I definitely felt different then Abraham because I was talking to my dad.

In math I want to work on checking my place value when dividing.  I want to work on this because a lot of the time when I get something wrong it’s because of place value.

I also want to work on slowing down and copying the problem and/or answer correctly . I want to work on this because if I copy the wrong problem or answer I get the problem wrong and it is hard to spot.

What did you like most about our nonfiction study?

I liked learning about the different text features. I liked learning about text features because it can help me create a better book. I also liked learning about introductions. I did not really have introductions before but now I think it helps me a lot!

Do you think you did a good job of including detailed information in your final piece?

I think I did do a good job of including detailed information. I think this because I have steps to teach people how to make awesome crafts. I also think I did a good job including information by adding hand drawn pictures or mini crafts.

What structure did you choose for your piece? 

I chose chronological order. This is my structure because I have steps to get people tho making awesome arts and crafts! I have the steps on every page.

What new writing skills, strategies, or techniques did you learn during this study?

I learned that their are different introduction options like: build background information, ask questions etc. I also learned more about nonfiction text features. Before I only knew about pictures and titles. I learned a lot from this unit!  

My family immigrated from Russia. My great great grandmother immigrated at age 10! My great great grandfather was not aloud to pass because he had rheumatic fever but his father was aloud to pass. He was forced to get back on the ship but he secretly jumped off and swam to shore! The ship came through New Jersey. There are pictures and newspaper articles but that is all that is left over. This is similar to what we have learned about before because they both came in ships and talked about Russian immigrants. A difference is that there are not a lot of traditions that my family still has. some interesting facts are that My great great grandfather had a very successful butcher shop. Mobsters ( they are very bad people ) tried to take over his shop. During the trial the defenders for the mobsters said that my great great grandfather could not sue because he was not a citizen. The judge paused the trial and to my great great grandfather into his office and made him a citizen right then and there!

I have a character at the time of the civil rights movement, this is how this person feels about marching. I have the opinion if this person marches.

Hi, I am a 16 year old white student.

I live in Washington DC. Finding a job has been hard for me. I have never attended a civil rights demonstration myself. There is a march to Washington DC that Dr. King is leading. I live in Washington DC but I think that it is important to go and march the whole thing. I will travel to where he march starts.

I think it is important to march the whole thing because I think it is unfair that you have less rights if you are black. Maybe if the laws change I could get a job.

This is a very important time in history and in my life.

I have about 23 responses. Almost every response is a different kind. I have 3-5 responses a week. I have 11 different kinds of responses out of 12. They are: summary, list of characters, connections, K-W-L , stop and jot, new words and definitions, inferences, character sketch, predictions, character letter and questions.

I have 2-3 different types of entries per book. My responses help me gain more of an understanding of what I am reading by letting me look back to remember the interesting books I read and help me to keep track of what I am reading.

I am very good at stopping and jotting in my notebook and I want to work on answering more questions that I ask. I also want to do more character letters because it will help me understand the character and book better. My teacher can help me with this by reminding me to try to do those things.

                                     Scavenger Hunt Reflection

• What did you like about the Hanukkah activity with kindergarten?

I liked that it taught them things but they also get to have fun. I also liked that we not the teachers created it.

• What would you do differently if we did it again?

I think I would have  wanted us to have more time. I would also have us be able to have the whole school so that we could spread out more.

• How did you feel as a leader during the activity?

I really enjoyed being a leader because we got to do something to help them get taught in a fun way.  

• How would you lead your group the same if we did this activity again?  How would you lead differently?

I would lead the same by letting the kindergartners do almost everything and have fun.

I would lead differently by keeping track of what we were doing more than I was. I would also want to let the kindergartners do more.

• What do you think the kindergartners learned from this activity?

I think that they learned the meaning of Hanukkah more than they did before but I was also surprised at how much they knew.

My book for book club was Jake Drake Know-it-all. It is a series of books and the author is Andrew Clements. My partners in my group were: Bbriody24 and Hjossart24. we presented a puppet show! If I had to do it again I would have had us all be shown and have it not be a puppet show.  Instead of a puppet show I would like it to be more of a play.  We decided to have a puppet show because there were lots of character’s we wanted to introduce.  I would want there to only  three characters for the three of us. I can’t wait for the next book club to begin!
