This year for Teffilah my choice was the “Musical” Tefillah group. I am going, to be honest, it was not what I expected. I don’t think it was how they described it to be but it was still a great class. We recently finished a group project where we were able to choose a partner and create a tune for one of the many prayers in the Amidah. I chose one of my great friends and funnily enough because of this class he now wants to learn piano. (Along with drums and guitar) I know thats a lot of instruments. My friend and I joined up with another group and we created a tune for the prayer of knowledge. Although the Keva in our group wasn’t always the greatest we fought through it and people ended up really liking our tune! I learned that making up a tune is not easy. Sure making the music is an amazing experience and it fills you with satisfaction… but adding singing or humming was very difficult to do (especially when you’re the only one doing it! Thanks, guys >:1  )   I connected to most of the music because every single prayer was something for yourself and not to praise. I hope in the future we can have one of these prayers each time on Thursday Teffilah’s. We are currently learning my group’s tune to the prayer of knowledge so that this Thursday we can essentially present it or perform it to the congregation.
