The Book of Joshua (Chapter 2) in Review

Main Characters:

-Rachab

-2 Jewish Spies

-G-d

-Joshua

Summary:

Joshua wanted to enter the land of Israel with the Israelites. Although, first he needed to check to make sure it was safe for the Israelites to be there, so he sent 2 spies to check. Then, the spies went and a nice woman named Rachab helped them and they were safe.

Or, in other words:

Rachab knew the Jews were planning to take over but she feared G-d and knew they would win. So she helped them. Then they agreed not to kill her or her family.

Deeper Meanings:

Always go out of your way to help others, even if it endangers you. This is because G-d will then help you. In other words, trust in G-d’s plans and then he will have great plans for you. We know this because Rachab trusted in G-d to protect her, so she was able to protect others because of knowing that. Also, the two Jewish spies trusted in Joshua who trusted in G-d and they were safe as well.

Real Life Examples:

Stand up for what you believe in. For example, currently in the world we are dealing with African Americans not being treated equally to White Americans. This gives us the opportunity to stand up and show what we think is right towards African Americans. For example, if you believe that African Americans should be treated equally to everyone else, maybe go out of our way to be nice to an African American when you see one and help them if they need help to show them that. Also, we are dealing with a global pandemic currently (covid-19). This as well gives us the opportunity to act and do as we think is right. For example, if you think staying home and wearing a mask and gloves when going out, the do so to show what you believe and maybe others will follow along!

Great Leaders

My leader is my mom. This is because she is the person that I go to for advice, which I consider a leader . This is because you go to people that you can trust and that are wise for advice, and those people become your own leader, such as my mom. I think that my mom is similar to Joshua because people went to Joshua for advice because they could trust him and thought that he was wise as well.

I called up my grandma and grandpa and they think that a great leader was Moses. This is because he was selfless and determined. This leader is similar to Joshua because Joshua was also selfless and determined.

Poem About Sacrifices

It is hard to sacrifice something, especially when you dont know the outcome of it.

It is hard to be away from the outside world, especially when you dont know when you can return to it.

It is hard to know that people are suffereing, meanwhile you get to be at home with your family.

It is hard to know that events and trips that people have been looking forward to for a long time, have been cancelled.

Although, it is easy to know that we are all going through this together, so no one is alone in this “new world”.

Centerpiece for Shabbat

This is My Centerpiece:

My centerpiece isnt really a masterpiece and Im definately not the best artist, but I think the meaning behind the centerpiece is the most valuable. The meaning behind this centerpiece is that the heart represents loving one another, hence the words in it “love one another”. The equal sign is so post to represent that if you love one another in this hard time and all the time, there will be peace again. Peace to me doesnt mean that our world is perfect, because our world has a lot of hard work to do before that, and with everything that is going on, it will take even longer. Instead, maybe when things hopefully return to normal, we will be more grateful for things that we take for granted, and instead of thinking of all the negrtives, there will be peace in our minds and heart because we are greateful for what we do have and will be able to love one another better because of that.

Update on Experiential Exdous

1.What is one thing that you are excited to plan for experiential exodus? Why?

I am excited to plan the station where G-d shows phoroah his strength/wonders. This is because it is really cool to see G-d’s powers and show that to kids to educate them.

2.What has been challenging as you work on the project? Why?

It has been challenging to work without my partner. This is because it is easier to work with two minds, rather than one, because more minds = more ideas.

3.What is your favorite part of the exdous story? Why?

My favorite part is at the end when the Jews are saved by G-d. This is because the story has a good ending and I like happy endings.

What I learned in Esther Chapter 9,Verse 22

I opened the Tanach and…

1.How to keep Purim? We keep Purim by having fun(כיף) and having a big feast(סעודה). You should also give gifts to the poor(matanot levyonim) and send gifts to everyone(mishloach manot).

2.My ideas of how we can keep these mitzvot and still have fun at Purim are…We can do a fundraiser with bracelets and foods and that could be money that we give to the poor. On the morning of Purim we can go to different places and give out mishloach manot. Then at lunch everyone has a fun festive meal and maybe there could be a fun activity and different drinks to try since in the Purim story there were many drinks. Then lastly, we will have the carnival and that is the Mitzvah of fun and everything is upside down(נהפוכו).

3.Do you have any ideas for how we can keep these mitzvot at Purim while still having fun? Please leave your ideas in the comments below. I cant wait to read them!

Textual Tuesday

Quote:במקום שאין איש תשתדל להיות איש

Translation In My Own Words: If people arent being mature in a place,be the mature one.

Other Translation:“If you are in a situation where no one is being a human,be/act like the human.”

My Goal To Follow This:I can use this quote in my life for example in class when people arent listening and being rude, maybe instead of getting involved and giving them attention by saying “stop” which doesnt help, I can just ignore them no matter how stressful it is.

Debating About Torah

Debating About Torah:

The problem is that when we learn about the ten commandments there are different approaches and I believe in the miracle method. I say this because I belive in miracles and in G-d and all he can do, how much power he has and what he can control and do. This relates to the text in the way that it says shamor in one text which means keep and in another text is says zachor which means to remember. Its talking about Shabbat in it! This relates to beileving because we should believe that both of these ways are okay and g-d will excpet us either way. Also I belive in this because g-d is not a human so he can say multiple things at a time so both of these things can be true!

How do we resolve the differences between the Two versions of the Ten Commandments?

I didnt really get this assignment but I’m gonna try to do what I think makes sense.

1.What Is An Explanation Of The Method?

I dont know if this is a method but the one where they talk about Shabbat is where they are comparing differnt ways of keeping Shabbat and if you should remember it or observe it.

2.Why you prefer the method?

I preffer it because its nice to compare 2 different things that kind of have the same meaning but yet you can still compare them and one is just kind of addin onto the other method.

3.Any problems with the method?

The only problem would be that maybe one would be more logical then the other one. What I mean by this is that which one do you think G-d wants us to do. Maybe there is no right or wrong answer but thats just my opnion.
