Food for Thought: Temperature and Odor

Do you think the temperature of the room affects the time it takes an odor to get to your nose? Explain your answer. Provide two pieces of scientific reasoning to explain why.

I think that the temperature of the room does affect how fast the odor travels through the air. My evidence is if the temperature of the room is really cold, it will freeze the odor a little bit, which will make it harder for the odor to move. Another reason is yes, because if it’s really hot, there won’t really be anything holding the odor back from traveling across the room.

Civil War Speed Dating Reflection

What role did your character play in causing the Civil War? He ended up siding with the South (The people that wanted slavery), because if he freed the slaves, he would become a slave.

Did your Character believe in slavery? Why? Why not? He didn’t like slavery, but he knew if he freed the slaves, he would become a slave, so he ended up siding with the south.

Does your character believe that the government should have power to tell states what to do? Yes because he was the president, and if the states had state rights they could leave whenever they wanted to.

What other person/people does your character believe is most at fault for causing the war? The people that sided with the south.

Do you like the character you were assigned? Why?  I like him because he doesn’t like slavery, though I also don’t like him because he’s kind of selfish because he was worried that he’s become a slave if he freed a bunch of slaves, and most of those slaves, have been slaves for a long time.

Slavery Primary Sources

How did the experiences of slaves first hand compare to what we have read about in the past? Were our secondary sources accurate to the slave experience? Explain. It compared with it because the slave one that was 1st hand was from a different point of view.

What was one new thing you learned from reading these stories? I leaned that the slave masters beat on kid slaves also.

Did reading these stories from slaves change your perspective? How so? Yes, because it told me that they tortured kids too.

How do you think that the stories of slaves relates to our essential question of “Why do people move?” ? I think that it relates because maybe slavery is the reason that some people move.

Why did slaves move? Be specific in your answer. Maybe because they don’t want to be slaves.
