Slavery Primary Sources

How did the experiences of slaves first hand compare to what we have read about in the past? Were our secondary sources accurate to the slave experience? Explain.

They weren’t wrong, but the primary sources let you really see how it was being a slave from a slave’s point of view.

What was one new thing you learned from reading these stories?

I learned some slaves kind of took care of the other slaves.

Did reading these stories from slaves change your perspective? How so?

Kind of because if showed how slavery was even MORE awful than I thought.

How do you think that the stories of slaves relates to our essential question of “Why do people move?”?

It relates because slaves had to move when people sold them.

Why did slaves move? Be specific in your answer.

Slaves moved because if their master thought they were being bad, then they might sell the slave and the slave would have to move to wherever the person who bought him/her lived.
