Testing Our Rapunzel Creations

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

We chose to use model magic for the Rapunzel because it would be sturdy and easy to shape. We used cardboard for the castle because it would also be sturdy.

Here is a picture of my plan:

Here is a picture of my first attempt at the building process:

While you test:

What are you noticing?

We are noticing that our idea isn’t that realistic because the water would evaporate and the dirt wouldn’t stay in a pool shape. So in real life, when she jumped, there wouldn’t really be any water so she wouldn’t survive(probably).

What things are working?

Our tower stands up straight and doesn’t fall over and I think we have a nice design. I’mĀ also really proud of how our Rapunzel turned out.

What things are not working?

Rapunzel would get hurt because she is jumping from such a high tower, and our water isn’t deep enough. Our plan wasn’t really realistic at all.

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

We are going to make a zip line and a slide to go underneath it and she will grab the handles and land in the pool. The pool will be (in Rapunzel’s world) made out of “cement” not dirt because dirt would just collapse.

Do you need more materials?

Yes, we need a thin cardboard tube, string, and blue goo or something sticky. We also might need some cardboard to attach the zip line to, but, we might attach it to the pool.

Sketch your new design with labels on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is detailed and specifically labeled.

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

It will work better because it is safer and more realistic and it would make Rapunzel fall slower and she will be safer.
