Spool Racer Challenge #1

1. What do you like about your initial design?
I like that it is very creative.

2. What has been challenging about the initial design?
We didn’t have enough time to do the original idea.

3. How well did your racer perform in the first race? Did it go far? Fast?
It didn’t perform well because I shot it wrong with the rubber band.

4. How will you modify your design for the second race? What variables do you feel will affect how far and fast the racer goes? Why?
I will find the way to shoot my car without it sometimes going the wrong way because it can go further than that it’s just that I didn’t shoot it right.

5. What have been your strengths and challenges during the design process?
Strengths was that we got the design done on the day we started building it. My challenge was trying to shoot the car right because 1 out 3 times I would actually shoot it right.

This is my final product for the 1st part of this challenge.

This is the original sketch of my car.

6. What questions do you have?
None.

  1. Hi! I am Alina.
I really liked your post and your design for the ‘racer’ really did catch my eye. When you stated, “We made the rubber band bigger so it could have more energy and then it would go further.” I didn’t quite understand how it would make it go faster. Instead, you could possibly try making the rubber tighter, so it would work kinda like a hair elastic on a wrist, when you stretch it out and let it go further you stretch it the more speed it will gain and more painful it will be on the wrist, the same thing with the car.
    Hope my comment was useful.
    Alina.

    • That was really cool! I will make sure to take what you said into consideration if I ever do this again. I thought it would go faster because we are launching by pulling the rubber band in the direction that we are shooting it so we could get more momentum while throwing it.
