Writing – Unit 1 Standards

The goal of our first writing workshop unit is to expose the students to different genres of writing and the traits that go with these genres. Students will learn about the important connections between the words and illustrations, how to generate ideas, and what it takes to be a writer and illustrator. The following are the kid friendly standards that we will be focusing on:
- I can write my opinion about a topic and give reasons for my thinking.
- I can write to teach about a topic by giving facts about it.
- I can write to tell an organized story with details.
- I can listen to others’ ideas to help add details to my stories.
- I can use what I have learned to answer questions or how to find the answers to questions.
- I can show that I know how to use words correctly when I write and speak.
- I can show that I know how to write sentences correctly.
