index card challenge

Title: Index Card Challenge

Category: ETC

Today’s Challenge: Using only an index card and scissors find a way to cut your index card so you can fit your entire body through it.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (organization):

My goal for organization/planning today within my team is… set up a simple plan and not argue with my group

My Individual Plan I will cut the card into strips and make the hole wide enough for someone in my group to fit through it

Why I think my plan will be successful:

Our Group’s Plan

We chose this plan because…it was the most simple

Possible challenges that may come up during construction…the paper strips breaking.

Each team member will be responsible for …making each strip

After the Build

Our design worked well because… well we did not finish in time because the strips broke

This activity was challenging because… our strips kept breaking

This activity was comfortable because…. it was simple and easy (once we agreed on a idea)

I met my teamwork organization/planning goal by…figuring out a plan that was not hard or relay easy

A strength of my team was…. not arguing on whose plan was better

An area of growth for my team is… to not spend so much time talking about our plan and actually do the work.

For our next challenge, my new teamwork organization/planning goal for myself is…. to think of a plan that does not need to end with someones idea left out.

newspaper shoe challenge

Title: Newspaper Shoe Challenge

Category: ETC

Today’s Challenge: Using only newspaper, 24 inches of tape, and one scissors, you and your partner need to create one shoe that fits either you or your partner’s foot. The shoe must be able to come on and off without falling apart.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Communication):

My goal for communication today within my team is…not to be the boss in my group

My Individual Plan make a box of newspaper and then where it.

Why I think my plan will be successful:

Our Group’s Plan: build around the shoe then take it off.

We chose this plan because… we knew that it would work

Possible challenges that may come up during construction…loss of tape

Each partner will be responsible for… making the design

After the Build

Our design worked well because…we could slip it on and off.

This activity was challenging because…we could not figure out what design to use.

This activity was comfortable because….it was easy

I met my teamwork communication goal by…not being the boss in my group

A strength of my partnership was….we did not argue

An area of growth for my partnership is… i don’t know this

For our next challenge, my new teamwork communication goal for myself is….to listen to all of the ideas in my group.

debate reflection

Blog title: Columbus debate reflection

Explain how your group worked together before the debate (during research). Did you work well together?we all shared out our research and thought of a way to share all of our research on one sheet of paper.

Explain how your group worked together during the debate. Did you work well together? we all agreed on who would read what and when they would read it.

What can you do differently next time? Why will this help you and your group improve? let other people have more parts in the debate and when we are talking back and fourth.

Explain how this debate influenced your opinion on Columbus. it made me learn that we should not celebrate a person that failed his mission to find spices and america.

pinball/marble run challenge.

ANYTHING YOU SEE IN RED NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED BY YOU!

Essential Question: Can my group successfully plan, design and build a paper plate pinball/marble run using only the provided materials?

Goal: Move the marble from one end of the plate to the other, having the marble travel through at least three obstacles.

My teamwork/communication goal for this challenge: everybody’s voice is heard.

Step 1: Brainstorm

Look at the supplies table. You may NOT take anything from the table yet.

You may only take ONE plate and ONE marble. There are no other requirements. You will have 15 minutes to build.

What ideas do you have? cut the paper role into a tunnel,Popsicle stick maze, paper arch

Your group has shared all of your ideas. Before you can start building, what is your actual plan?

  • What will your marble run look like? (draw a sketch & insert photo here)

what makes a team work?

Today’s essential question: What makes a team work?

Why is it important to develop the capacity to work as a member of a team? it is important that we develop these skils

because then if someone else in your group dosen’t understand something you would be able to explain it to them.

What areas of teamwork do you find easiest and why? the easiest part is when we all understand the problem.

What areas of teamwork do you find most challenging and why?when we are not working together.

What difference does it make if you are able to play a role in the development of assessment tools?you can use different tools for different jobs

In what way(s) do you connect this work to our Core Values: Wonder, Empathy & Tikkun Olam  we all follow the thing that mean the core values.

Lego Duck Challenge

Today I worked through two different challenges in a small group. The first challenge required me to work with my partners to build a duck out of legos in 4 minutes. The second challenge was a brain teaser where we had to solve a bunch of questions within 7 minutes.

Here is a picture of my duck:

After The duck Challenge:

What went well for my team regarding teamwork… we all had an equal part.

What went well for my team while completing the actual task… we worked together.

What was challenging for my team in terms of teamwork… deciding who would do what.

What I would do differently… include other people in my group.

After the Brain Teaser:

What went well for my team regarding teamwork…we helped each other when we did not get something.

What went well for my team while completing the actual task…we all solved the problem together.

What was challenging for my team in terms of teamwork…sometimes we did not solve a problem right.

What I would do differently…read the whole problem so that we don’t miss something.

When working in groups this year, I hope that…we can all be kind to one another.
