Matilda

Today my class and I went to see Matilda at First Stage. I enjoyed it and this is my first time seeing or reading about Matilda. It was easily the longest play I’ve ever seen. I enjoyed it and the cast was very good. I overall think it was very good and you should see it!

How do you feel your presentation went?

I think it went smooth and it was fun. It was less pressure than I thought.

 

How did you feel during your presentation?

I felt good and I sat at the computer so it was less pressure and I wasn’t in front of everyone. 

 

What was it like to be asked hard questions by your classmates?

It was fun and I am used to it because I have parents that also ask me hard questions.

What was it like to be asked hard questions by Gev. Denny and Adon Lippman? 

Again it was easy because I have parents that also ask me hard questions.

How do you think Abraham felt after arguing with God about Sodom and Gomorrah?

I felt scared but in power because he was stepping up and talking to god.

Compare how you felt presenting your idea to how Abraham might have felt debating with God.  How do you think you felt similar? How do you think you felt different? I think we felt similar because we both felt good and accomplished and happy.

My Study Plan

What do I need to focus on when studying for math? I will focus on showing my work and I will double check before I turn it in. I will study by writing division problems down on pieces of paper and checking my work after with multiplication. I will also do freckle so I know what the answers for certain problems are.

Writer’s Workshop Non-Fiction Reflection

What do you like most about our nonfiction study? I liked that we read books and had discussions about what the writer did because that made me figure out more what happened in the book.

Do you think you did a good job of including detailed information? I think I did good with detailed information because I said Luka Dončić  was averaging 20.5 points per game and I said LeBron James was going to his 15th all star game.

What structure did you use for your piece? I used description because I described who my award predictions are and who Luka Dončić is.

What new writing skills, strategies, or techniques did you learn during this study? I learned almost all of the Nonfiction text features like Headings, sub headings, captions, inserts, table of contents, etc. I also learned how to identify a book’s text structure.
 

Family interview

For homework I interviewed my Dad. Where did they immigrate from? He came from Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. My Dad, Aunt, Grandpa and Grandma came to Milwaukee in 1991. How did they get to the U.S? They came for a better future and they came by plane. We still have cups and dishes from Georgia. How are they similar to the from what we have learned about MKE immigrants? They are similar to the older immigrants because they came with little money.

March on Washington

Today in class we did a role playing thing and I got a elderly African-American grandparent. I run a farm in Illinois and am not rich but I don’t go hungry. I wouldn’t march but I would support them. I would give the marchers food and cheer when good things happen. As much as I want to march I wouldn’t  because it might be dangerous and too expensive. I don’t have the money to go to Washington in a car and I might get hurt while there.

Strategy Checklist Reflection

How many responses do I have? I have 9 entries and most of them are long summaries.

Do I have between 2-3 a week? I do but I mostly add on to my older ones.

Do I have different types of entries? Not that many, I only have three different types.

What types do I have? I have Long Summaries, Stop and Jots & K-W-L charts.

Do I have more than one entry per book? In most places yes. I should spread them out.

How are my responses helping me gain a deeper understanding about what I am reading? They are helping me because if I want to remember main points I look back at my Summaries and if I want to learn more I make a K-W-L chart.

What do I do well in my Reader’s Response Notebook? I think I do well in summaries and writing big pieces.

What do I need to work on?What can my teacher do to help? I need to work on doing different types of strategies. My teacher can help by reminding me about dong different strategies.   The first strategy I will use is writing a character letter.  This will me get a deeper understanding by putting myself as a character.

  • I liked that the kindergartners had fun and I did too.

  • I would change that it would be more of a hunt than a handout.

  • I felt good since I was a leader and the littler kids listened to me.

Book Club Reflection

For book club I read Runaway Ralph. My group was, Eweisshaus23, Ngoldenberg23, Nfox24, Dcrouse23, Jodesky23, and me. We made a movie and it was really fun to make.  It was fun because we worked together and that let us do it much easier. I enjoyed book club because I liked the book and our group was fun to work with. Our project went well since again our group was easy to work with.  Before filming, we outlined our script and who would play who.  This helped it go smoothly.

Goals

I have been working on my goals that I posted a while ago and this is what I have done.

Goal for math: My goal for math was getting better at division and I have worked more on multiplication since that is what our class is doing.

Goal for Writing: My goal for writing was not getting distracted and I think I sometimes do that but, sometimes I make Glub glo glunks with ngoldenberg23 and other people in my class.

Goal for Reading: My goal for reading was reading quietly and I think I have done a pretty good job on this and I have read well.

Goal for Social Studies: My goal for social studies was getting along with my group and not going by people I don’t enjoy working with.

Goal for Jewish Studies: My goal from Jewish studies was not fooling around and I am doing it sometimes but I sometimes get carried away.

Goal for Hebrew: My goal for Hebrew was participating more and I think I have done that by raising my hand.

Goal for Art: My goal for art was not talking during the beginning when Gev. Porat and I have been doing a good job doing that.
