My study plan for the unit 3 math test is to double check my work before I turn it in and checking my subtraction. I think this is a good plan because I mostly mess up on my subtraction. I could do this by practicing at home on freckle and Khan Academy and I could practice on a blank piece of paper.

 What did you like most about our nonfiction unit?

I liked how we got to read so many different books and learn more about nonfiction writing.

Do you think you did a good job of including detailed information in your final piece?

I think I kind of did a good job, but I think I could of added more details to my book. My evidence is that in my book I said ” Hammerheads usually swim on the bottom of the ocean waiting there prey, hammerheads like to swim in tropical waters”. I probably could have put what they like to eat in that sentence and not have it as another paragraph.

What structure did you chose for your piece?

I used description because I mostly talked about different types of sharks.

What  new writing skills, strategies, or techniques did you learn during this study? 

I learned new text structures like I learned Cause and Effect. I also learned about problem and solution. I used a lot more text features than I used last year.

Today we did our family interview projects.

Where did your family immigrate from?

My Moms great,great, great, great, great grandfather  came from Glarus  Switzerland. His name was Samuel Blumer.

How did they get to the U.S.?

He got here by a boat he first came to Milwaukee and then went to New Glarus, WI.

How is it similar or different from the other immigrants in Milwaukee?

He had a brewery but he was not from Germany.  We learned that lots of German immigrants to Milwaukee opened up breweries.  He was the first physician in New Glarus.

We did a March to Washington activity and we had different roles. I am a elderly African american  grandparent.My family works on a farm in Illinois, and aren’t getting rich but aren’t going hungry. Coming to  Washington would be hard and expensive. I would not go on the walk to Washington because it would be a long walk to Washington and getting someone to drive me would be expensive, but I would support them by just walking to the next city and then I would walk home. I support the part where children should get better education and I support that we should get better pay. By supporting the march I hope that everything changes.

I have 70 reader’s responses. I do a reader’s response every day that we do independent read. I have a lot of different kinds of  entries like inferences and writing letters to characters. I think for some books I have the same reader’s response but for some books I have different types of responses. My responses help me understand my book more clearly because sometimes when I forget a important fact from the book. I could go back into my reader’s notebook and I could look at what the fact was and then I will know it. I think I do a good job at making sure my book makes sense and I am good at making sure that I stop and jot before our independent reading time is up. I think I should work on doing different types of responses for the same book.  I want to do this to help me continue growing my brain and gaining a deeper understanding.

My one word goal is Healthy. I want to be more healthy by eating healthy food.  I will also be healthy by growing my brain by trying new things.

I will do this by trying new things and make sure I am eating more healthy.

Scavenger Hunt Reflection

• What did you like about the Chanukah activity with kindergarten?

• • I liked that we got to work with the kindergarten classes it was really fun I would like to do it again.

• What would you do differently if we did it again?

• • I would not do it on goose chase and I also would use paper and write notes to tell them where to go and get gelt.  

• How did you feel as a leader during the activity?

• • I felt that I could control the kindergarten and really got to work together.

• How would you lead your group the same if we did this activity again?  How would you lead differently?

• • I would lead differently by not just telling them facts but letting them figure it out.I would lead the same by not letting them get out of control.

• What do you think the kindergarteners learned from this activity?

• I think they learned a lot about hanukkah and think they had a lot of fun!

I think that I am doing good on my math goal because I understand my math when I look back at my math notebook or math binder.I have evidence that I did my goal because when I am on khan academy I got stuck and I looked at my math binder and flipped to the page were it was what we were doing and it helped a lot.  My new goal for math is to ask three class mates for help before I go to the teacher.I will do this by if I get stuck I will ask a peer next to me and if I ask 3 friends and I am still stuck I will ask the teacher for help. I think that I am going to keep my writing goal because we aren’t writing a nonfiction story yet. I think that I am doing good on my reading goal but I think I need to get a harder book because I didn’t need to use my goal because I mostly understood everything that I was reading. My evidence is that one day I read a book and I understood everything that I was reading. My new goal for reading is to get just right books that can challenge me a little bit so it’s not to easy for me and I think that I should do more stopping and jotting because I keep on doing summary’s for the books I read so I want to  stop and jot more and write questions that I have about the book and predictions and connections. I will do this by stopping and jotting every 5 minutes of  independent reading. My goal for social studies is the same because we haven’t started a social studies yet. My goal is to have a growth mind set. I will do this by trying new things and if I need help I will ask 3 friends before I ask the teacher. I think that I am doing good on my Hebrew goal because I study my hebrew words at home on quizlet and I don’t think that I want to change this goal because I am doing pretty good at this goal and I like this goal and quizlet is the only way that I could study at home.I will do this goal by takeing my hebrew binder home to study the that I need to study for hebrew class and I will study on quizlet and study the new words. . My new science goal is to finish my guitar that I was building for science because I am not finished with it. I will do this by not being  goofie in the time that we have to finish our instruments. My evidence is that I am serios during sience because I have cut things and if I’m goofie or funny I won’t make a strait line and then my mesurements will be wrong and then I will have to start over. I will also do this by not sitting next to any boddie that will distract me.

I read Ramona And Her Father for book club. I liked book club because we can talk about the book as a group and we can’t usually talk about books during reading. I also liked book club because we get to do projects about are book club book we did a project that you have to make a board game we got a choice of doing a movie trailer, a board game. It was really fun creating a board game. We used wood as are game board, markers to color it , and paper for the cards. I think are board game went really well we did a game like sorry, I liked it because you didn’t have to read the book and to play it. It also tells you facts about the book. I don’t think I would change it.
