Now that our gauntlet of sportsmanship unit is finished it is time for us to reflect on our growth during the unit. Please answer the following questions by replying to this post on my blog. Make sure to use complete sentences, capitalization, and correct punctuation. Your answers for questions 1 and 3 must be two to three complete sentences not just one sentence. For question 2 your answer can be one sentence but it should still be a complete sentence. I am looking to see some depth and thinking in your answers.
- What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
- Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
- The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
Model of a reflection that meets grade level expectations:
What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
Something that was difficult for me during this unit was having to play football for two weeks, I am not very good at football and my team didn’t win any games which was hard for me. I think something that went well for me is that even though my team didn’t win many games we still figured out how to have fun and enjoy the unit.
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I think I demonstrated a growth mindset during the unit by trying my very best to get along with all my teammates even though there were some people on my team that I don’t normally get along with.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
To continue to be successful in gym class I need to make sure I try my very best to follow the healthy competition guidelines Adon Brugman has. I find if I follow those guidelines most of the the time that gym class is more fun for me.
1. One thing that was difficult during this unit was during basketball, during the games I could stand at halfcourt and the game could go on. I wish I would have gotten the ball more.
2. I think I demonstrated a growth mindset when I was wide open in games and didn’t get passed to I kept my cool and kept playing.
3. One thing I could work on is to continue to try and get more involved in games instead of staying back. Another thing I could work on is when I get the ball, maybe I could pass it instead of keeping it or driving to the hoop.
I agree because I could see you a little staying back
Nice job!!
I think you had great sportsmanship because whenever you made a basket or made a mistake, you never got upset, angry, or cocky. Nice job!!!!!
Great Job Jake! But is there any other examples that you can make?
I understand how you wouldn’t get the ball. That would happen to me. Your’e comment is well done because it explains how your’e doing good and what you need to work on. Good job!
For number one I agree that my team could have passed to each other a little more.
I agree about getting the ball I wish I got the ball more too
1.) Something that was difficult was that I had to play people I was competitive with. I feel that I could have been a little less competitive. Something that I felt really good about was that even though my team had a bad record, we still had a lot of fun playing together.
2.) When we were losing in a basketball game, I kept a growth mindset by encouraging my team to keep going no matter what. We won that game because we all kept going with a growth mindset.
3.) Something I want to do to keep having fun in gym class is that just let it go. Gym class is a bout having fun, not winning or being the best athlete. Something I want to work on is that just let it go if somebody blows a play or I blow a big play, I just want to have fun during gym class. Getting upset does not help me with having fun.
I think you demonstrated good sportsmanship because you did not get mad when you lost.
I agree with your number two. when my team played your team and we were winning by a little, you did not get mad or upset that you lost the game.
When we played you guys, it was very fun because it wasn’t a close game, but we were playing around at the end and I really enjoyed it!
Good job! I liked your growth mindset. Keep encouraging no matter what! I’m seeing that your’e not getting upset easy.
What is something that was difficult for you during this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
One thing that was difficult for me in this unit was being a little too funny. My teammates were telling me that and I could see it as well.
One thing that went well for me was having a growth mindset. I was always telling my teammates “come on guys, we got this”.
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
One time I demonstrated good sportsmanship was when I picked someone up when they fell down on the floor.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class
Some things I can do to keep being successful are being positive. Another thing I can do to keep being successful is for me to keep high-fiving my teammates and the other team.
I was on your team and you always had good teamwork and sportsmanship
Try to keep the growth mindset this unit TOOOO
Your’e comment is accurate and understanding. good job!
I think its good to be a little funny and have fun but you cannot take it to far. Good job realizing it in addition to others telling you.
Something that was difficult for me during the basket ball unit was dribbling the ball and shooting because not a lot of people passed the ball to me so I couldn’t really shoot. Dribbling was hard for me because I kept getting travels, because it was hard for me to dribble and run at the same time. One time I demonstrated a growth mindset was by not complaining when I didn’t get the ball. One thing I can do to be successful in gym is to try to try to shoot more.
Good job. try to shoot more and you will success!
I also didn’t get the ball much. I wanted to try shooting too!
1.What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit?
Something that was difficult for me was getting engaged in the games. I had hard time focusing and playing the games.
2.What is something that went well for you during the unit?
Something that went well was working as a team. I think I did a good job of working with my team.
3.Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
One example is when won but I still congratulated the other team and told them they played good.
4.The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I want to be more engaged in the games and stay focused.
Why was it hard to focus???
I agree that it was hard to focus during games for a bunch of people including both of us. Yeah, you did do very good with congratulating the other teams even when you won. -BW
I disagree that you didn’t get engaged in the games I thought you had a lot of fun.
1. Something that was challenging was that I was still recovering from my injury. Even though I was in pain a lot, my team still passed to me and treated me like everyone else.
2. We had a game where we were losing a lot. My whole team gave up beside me. I told my team we should still try and because we changed our mindset, we ended up winning.
3. My goal is to try my hardest even if the rest of my team gives up.
This unit I was way more competitive than ever. I was not proud of myself because when I played AJ’s team I was really upset and was not proud of my attitude. Most of the time we got along bt the other times we were struggling with that. I am proud of my shots in basketball but I do want to pass more to Koko and Elliot because it was not fair to them.
When we won I said “Good game,” but I also was happy and telling our team how good our shots were. (kind of bragging to our own team.) I do want to be happy for the other team when we lose though because, to be honest, they played really well and better than us at that time.
I want to keep striving to be better at giving the other team high fives when they make a good shot or saying you played really well, but I think our team just needs to be okay if someone makes a mistake. My goal by the end of the school year is to be the best version of myslef and move on after we lose.
Good job being honest your attitude was very different between football and bball
I agree with your number one answer because when I was told that I was joining your team and when I watched you play, you were making your shots and driving to the hoop whenever you could as fast as you could.
Try to breath when being too competitive.
1.In this unit I struggled with complementing the other teams and having a growth mindset. Somthing that went well was that my team had a good mindset and we got along.
2. One time that I had a growth mindset was when we were in the football unit. I had been complementing my teamates.
3.Having a growth mindset, and thinking inspirational thoughts. I also would like my teamates to help me.
Nice job I agree because you were on my team.
#1. One thing that was difficult for me was that I sometimes would get a little frustrated with a call or a foul. One thing that went well for me was that when my teammates made a good shot or made a basket, I would always give them a hi-five and say “good shot!”.
#2 One way I showed good sportsmanship was that I never got mad at my team if they did not make their shot or if the other team won.
#3 One way I could get better at further in the semester is passing to other people on my team and not passing to the same people all the time. I could work on this by playing more games and looking up more at the people who are open on the field or court.
I agree with you about always saying a good job to your team! Also, if someone on the other team scored a point, I saw you high fiving them too.
Levi, I feel like you did very good in passing and being a good teammate
Some things that were hard were trying to not take over. Something that went well is that we performed well throughout the gauntlet.
I think one of the times I had a growth mindset was during the game where we came back and won and I didn’t give up.
I think I should not take stuff to hard because if someone misses a catch I will try to not be mad and remind myself it is just a game.
Nice job not taking over the the game.
Did you end up taking over? Good job, that is good that you didn’t give up then you guys tried harder and then won. Just remind yourself to stay calm when someone misses a catch or a throw. -BW
It was hard for me to play in the football mini-unit because it my first year playing. I liked the basketball weeks because I like basket ball, and it was a chance to get better. I liked that there was no drills.
In the football weeks I thought I will be bad. when I thought it I really got worse, but then I tried to not think about it and I got better.
I will try to keep getting better at football because it my first time trying it. I’ll try to get better at basketball because I’m seeing that I need to get better at throwing.
In this unit what was hard for me was football because in football I kept getting hurt and I was not enjoying myself. The other reason why is because my team was not being to cooperative and not passing the ball when I was open. What went well this unit was when was during basketball because my team was passing the ball to me I was having fun and I did not get hurt as much. Also we may have not won every game but my team still had fun.
One example that shows that I had a growth mindset was when one of my teammates shot and made the shot I gave them a high five. Another example is when Leah made a touchdown and I started cheering.
A few things I will do to be successful in gym is by keep on showing good sportsmanship and trying to keep a growth mindset.
What is something that was difficult for you during this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
Something that was difficult for me during this unit was to lose.
I felt that we could win and we played well, but we lose.
after the game I understood that it’s doesn’t matter if we lost, then on the other games I played and I enjoy. I understood when we played and we have fun, and we even won games.
2. Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I learned that if you lose, it’s doesn’t matter. This is the most important thing for me.
3. The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I think I need to get better on the thing we are doing when we come to the class, sit on the line and don’t talk.
I think it can help me to be focus on gym classes.
That is a very good lesson to learn! Cant wait until next year when we can play together in gym:)
Something that was difficult was that most of the times my team would pass me the ball but then right after ask for it back so I have only made one basket this unit. Something that went well this unit was that my team was nice. I demonstrated a growth mindset by not getting upset when my team would yell at me for dropping the ball (that happened only once). Two things that I can keep being successful is that I keep listening to my team and number two is that keep being nice :). I don’t think I need to work on something. (maybe ask my team)
Zoe great job at this but is there any more examples you can show?
I think dribbling was hard for me. I think that I was a good team player because I always made sure everyone got the ball even if they were on the other team.
When we were playing basketball and we were losing I always focused on having fun.
I can keep having a growth mindset when we are losing and focus on having fun and I can work on asking for the ball.
Something that was difficult for me during this unit was that I usually could not catch the ball. I want to keep working on this. Something that went well for me was that I said good job to my teammates and I tried hard. I had a growth mindset when, if something not that fun happened, I did not ask to switch teams. I can keep being successful by keeping on doing different sports and trying hard.
I also couldn’t catch the ball. I hope to improve on that!
What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
Something that was difficult for me during this unit was that I almost never got the ball because no one passed to me. Something that was good was that I did get the ball a couple times.
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I had a growth mindset that I might get the ball and that if I do, I should pass to other people. This was hard though because I never really got the ball.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I can keep bringing my gym uniform and not using my freepasses so that if my uniform is in the wash or something, I can have a pass to use.
Try to call for the ball
1.What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit? It was hard to not get frustrated with everybody dropping passes in both sports.
What is something that went well for you during the unit? Scoring went well in both.
2.Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit. I showed a growth mindset when I was OK with people dropping every single pass.
3.The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class. I can try to pass more. I can also try to have more of a growth mindset.
I think you did good not getting too frustrated.
What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit?
It was difficult for me to get along with some people because they were not respecting me.
What is something that went well for you during the unit?
I felt that I showed good sportsmanship.
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I always told people that they did a good job if they made a basket or passed the ball well. I also asked if people were okay if they were hurt.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I will continue doing what I am doing because I feel that I am giving a good effort and being a good teammate.
1. What is something that was difficult for you during this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
One thing that went really well for me is that my team was really kind to me. I don’t recall anything bad that happened to me during this unit though.
2. Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I can’t really come up with an example because I didn’t really participate that much during this unit…
3. the first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I guess keep up the okay work????
Great response! I’m really confused by what you meant when you said you really didn’t participate much.
I liked your sportsmanship.
1. Something difficult for me this unit was making sure everyone else had fun while still maintaining a certain level of fun-ness myself. A lot of the times our team was destroying the other team and I didn’t want to be mean about it but I also wanted my own team to continue to have fun as well.
2. I had a growth mindset during a basketball game when we were losing by a lot I didn’t give up and I kept trying to play.
3. I can continue to make sure everyone gets involved in our sports. I can also continue to be a good sport no matter if my team wins or loses.
I agree with you for not having fun while everybody else was having fun.
But if your team wasn’t being sportsman-like, then would either team be having fun?
Something difficult was when my team was losing. Anytime we were losing I felt done and I didn’t end the game with a smile. I however also ended lot’s of games with a smile because I had so much fun!
I believed I demonstrated sportsmanship at the end of most games when class was almost over. I really liked this moment because I always did something super dumb and silly and then everyone smiled and had a good time.
I think I can keep up my optomism because if I don’t I will look at the down side and I will no longer have as much fun. I need to make sure I always am looking on the bright side!
I think that’s awesome that even if you were losing you would do something funny and end up with a smile
I can connect to you because sometimes when my team got blew out I did not leave with a smile, but most of the time I did. I also agree that you should look on the bright side.
1) I guess having to play with the same team was a little difficult. Sometimes someone on our team would be gone, and then we would have less subs, and sometimes I didn’t get along with people on my team.
2) I think i showed good sportsmanship because I would just try to keep playing even if I was tired.
3) I think I am doing good in gym. I don’t think I need to work on anything.
I think you did a good job of continuing to play even if it got hard.
I agree that it was hard to always have the same team because if you had temmates with bad sportsmanship you were stuck with them.
1. Not yelling at people when they were doing something that wasn’t right. Playing the games sort of well.
2. One of my teammates missed the ball and I didn’t yell at them.
3. Just to keep on trying to be nice to people when things go wrong as well as being nice to the other team.
This is a nice reply but it needs more details! I have 0 idea what you have been doing!
Does not yelling at a teammate mean you used good sportsmanship or just avoided using bad sportsmanship.
What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
I had trouble playing basketball because I don’t really get how to play. I think i did pretty well at playing football though.
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I am pretty much always positive even when my team wasn’t doing well.I like to always have a growth mindset.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I can keep trying to learn different sports. I can also keep trying to get better.
1. What is something that was difficult for you during this unit? What is something that went well for you during the unit?
Something that was difficult for me during this unit was not be as competitive. Our team showed really good sportsmanship with one another.
2. Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I had a growth mindset when a team member made a basket or missed the basket.
3. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class. I still need to work on being less competitive.
What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit?
Understanding people when they are only passing to one person
What is something that went well for you during the unit?
I played well and I thought I did a got job on sportsmanship
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit.
I kept a growth mindset on the people that didn’t catch the ball every time they are thrown at and kept passing to them when they were open.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
I need people to pass more to me because I didn’t get passed to a lot and I want to play as well so.
1.Something that was difficult was dribbling the ball for long periods of time without stopping to pass when no one was open. Something that went well was that I had a lot of lucky one-handed shots that went into the basket.
2.I had a growth mindset because whenever someone on my team or the other team didnt do so well. This is because I still told them they did a good job and encouraged them that they could do better the next time.
3.Going forward in gym class I will continue to be a good sport and have fun!
1. it was difficult for me to tolerate people as usual. I think I did good at trying my hardest.
2. I gave a growth mindset when my team was doing really bad and I stayed positive
3. I should keep trying my haredest. And I should also tolerate people.
Good job keep that growth mindset.
I agree with the tolerance.
I agree with number one, that happened with my team too.
I think that you did well with communicating with us(your team). I agree you did do a good job with using growth mindset.
I agree that you try your hardest every game. I don’t agree that you did bad tolerating people.
1. It was difficult for me when people told me I didn’t know the rules of basketball. It went well when I tried my hardest and scored points.
2. I demonstrated a growth mindset when we lost really bad to a team but I still had fun.
3. I want to be successful at not getting mad when people tell me I don’t know how to play a sport. I also want to try my best.
I agree you did a good job with scoring points.
1. Something that was difficult for me was being calm and not getting annoyed when other teams would yell at me or my teammates saying stuff like “IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY, DON’T SAY THE RULES”. I need to just be calm and let them think whatever they want to because fighting with them about it is not going to do anything but make them more mad.
2. I had a growth mindest when I didn’t mad or yell at someone who hit me in the head really hard and made my mouth bleed and then threaten to do it again by just laughing about it and staying calm. I wanted to get mad but I knew that would do nothing to help so I didn’t say anything.
3. I can keep being sucessful by not sitting next to people who will try to talk to me during directions. I can also make sure I tell other people to stop talking so they know whats happening too.
1.What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit? Something that was difficult for me was playing with my team because sometimes my team wouldn’t pass the ball so I would get really mad.
2.What is something that went well for you during the unit? I think that I did well playing in the games because I would try.
3.Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit. It was hard for me to have a growth mindset through this unit because when I didn’t get passed the ball I would get really mad.
4. The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class. I can keep trying in the games and keep making sure everyone is getting passed the ball.
I think you did a really good job of good sportsmanship and you always tried, even if you didnt get the ball passed!
Something that was difficult was being a good sport. I got mad a lot so this was very difficult. I did well at encouraging my teammates in the basketball section. I didn’t yell at my teammates during this time so I think that is a win.
At first, I was a mad kid that had terrible sportsmanship. By the end, I found out that we weren’t going to win anyway so I calmed down during the games.
I can calm down and not take things seriously. I need to have more fun and to do this I need to calm down. I need to work on the same thing. I need to have fun and change my mindset of a win, win, win. Also, I need to be patient with my teammates.
Yeah I totally understand. Nice use of detail
I thought you did good at not being the mad kid.
1. I think something I did well was I showed very good sportsmanship. I need to work on not getting upset with myself when I make mistakes, and I also have to work on using appropriate language when I make a mistake in basketball.
2. During every game I always had the mindset that we can win. Also even if we lost I would be okay with it if we lost because it is just a game.
3. I think to be successful in gym class I need to not be upset with myself when I make a mistake. I also need to stop swearing when I make mistakes. I think if I stopped doing these I will be more successful in gym class.
I have noticed over other sports that you have good sportsmanship even when you are losing. Awesome Job!
I love your honesty.
I think you are doing good.
What is something that was difficult for you during the this unit?
Being patient with my teammates.
What is something that went well for you during the unit?
Most of the time I think I was being patient.

I noticed that you get impatient sometimes but have been getting better and better. Keep on going!
What is something that was difficult for you during this unit?
Something difficult was scoring.
What is something that went well for you during the unit? I think something that went well for me was having good sportsmanship.
Give an example of one time where you believe you demonstrated a growth mindset during this unit. If you can’t come up with an example explain why it was hard for you to have a growth mindset during this unit. I think I had a growth mindset when I was upset that we were losing and then I just told my team it was ok and then we won.

When I encouraged my teammates.
The first semester ended a few weeks ago and we are now two weeks into the second semester. Please give one or two things you can do to keep being successful in gym class or one or two things you need to work on going forward to make sure you are successful in gym class.
Keep having good sportsmanship.
I don’t agree that you treat your teammates bad. However, I agree that you need to be more patient.
