Volleyball Unit Reflection

Now that our volleyball unit is finished it is time for us to reflect on our growth during the unit.  Please answer the following two questions by replying to this post on my blog.  Make sure to use complete sentences, capitalization, and the correct punctuation.  Also your answers must be two to three sentences not just one sentence.  I am looking to see some depth and thinking in your answers.  The following are the two questions:

  1. Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific)
  2. Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill?  If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved?  If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve?

  1. 1. I used to play volleyball for fun with my family and friends, and I knew a little bit about the game. I was decent at bumping and setting but my serve wasn’t very good. I was never able to get the ball over the net on my serves consistently. So during the volleyball unit I really wanted to improve on my serve and be able to get more than half my serves over the net an in bounds.

    2. I feel like I achieved my goal of being able to serve the ball over the net and in bounds on half my serves. I think I accomplished this goal because we always practiced serving during drills and I got to serve a lot in the scrimmages as well.

    • 1. I really wanted to improve at not being in pain when I serve. I also really wanted to get better at the sport itself
      2. Yes I defiantly learned something because it doesn’t really hurt when I serve and I’m a lot better at volleyball because a I can actually get my hands on a ball.

    • Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific)
Before we started volleyball, I wanted to improve on serving, as well as bumping. Both of these things have been struggles for me in the past, and I wanted to improve on them.

Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve?
Yes, I feel that I majorly improved on serving and bumping. This is because the days we had gym, I put forth my best effort, and took it upon myself to practice. I feel good that I know how to serve correctly, and bump.

    • One thing I wanted to work on was serving. I already could serve but I wasn’t very efficient at it. I think I got the tiniest bit better but not a big difference. I think the reason I got a bit better was because we did drills where we served.

  2. Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? I wanted to work on serving. Also I wanted to work on spiking.

Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve? I learned how to serve real well I serve it with power. My diving 1 handed catch is very good in nukum

  3. 1. I wanted to be able to bump and set well before I left for Mexico because I play volleyball there.

  4. 1. The main thing I wanted to improve on was passing it to other teammates after the serve came to me instead of just hitting it right back over the net.
    2. I didn’t get to practice much because in the scrimmages the serves rarely came over the net and I did not have many chances to return it.

  7. Before Volleyball, I didn’t know anything about it, and was not really excited because I didn’t like it. As we moved on I started liking it more and more.

I feel like I definitely learned something, I learned how to play Volleyball! I with the unit was longer because at the end of the unit I started to really enjoy it.

  8. 1) One thing I wanted to get better at was Bumping. I used to not know how to bump. Now I know how to bump but it is still painful. I also wanted to learn how to serve. Now I can most of the time serve from the blue line.
2)I do think I learned how to Serve and Bump. I feel I have learned them both because every day we did those drills. When I started I didn’t know how to serve, now I can do it almost everytime.

  9. I wanted to improve on serving because before I served really bad and hit it two feet in front of me.
I wanted to also improve on hitting because I was really bad at it.

    2. כן אני חושבת שלמדתי איך לשחק כדורסל. בהתחלה לפני שלמדתי לא ידעתי כלום ממש כלום ועכשיו אני יועדת הרבה יותר.

  14. 1. I wanted to learn how to serve a ball lower hand because I only learned how to send upper hand, I also wanted to learn how to hit the ball straight rather than diagonal.
2 No I do not think I learned these skills because I was sick for a lot of the unit and we had not got to playing a actual game until I got sick.

  15. Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific)
I kind of knew what a bump was, but I really didn’t know what the rest of the things were(setting, serving, spiking). I also don’t really like bumping because when the ball hits your arms, it kind of hurts.
Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve?
I learned (even though I kind of knew before) what a set and serve was. I didn’t really get better at bumping, and that’s probably because I was scared of the ball hitting my arms when I bumped, because it kind of hurt. I also still don’t really know what a spike is, but that might just be because I don’t remember.

    • I also agree with you that it hurts when you bump.I wonder if there is a way to fix that problem or at least make it better.By the way,you did great at serving! Way to go!

  16. I wanted to work on my serve.I wanted to spice my serve up by making it faster and and hitting it lower but over the net.I don’t think i learned how to make the ball go faster on my serve and hitting it lower because we learned how to serve, set and bump.

  17. 1.I played volleyball with my friends at home before the unit. but I wasn’t very good at bumping or setting. it always went one way or another. 2. I think I got better at bumping and setting because the drills drilled (no pun intended) the way i’m supposed to do it.

I wanted to Improve on serves. Because I could not even get the ball over the net.
Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve?
I actually learneed how to get the ball over the net and score some points for my team.

  23. Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific) How to really play volleyball. I didn’t know how to bump it or set the ball.

Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve? I didn’t really learn how to bump it on set it. When I bump it hit my forearm and not my fist.

    • I didn’t know how to bump or set either! I think the reason I didn’t really learn how to bump because sometimes the ball hurt when it hit my arm, so is that maybe why you didn’t really learn how?

    • I think you need to be a bit more specific about this bud. You only did one sentence! I’m positive that you can do more than that! but I guess yes you did improve a little bit!

  24. 1. Before I didn’t enjoy volleyball because was really bad at hitting the ball and setting it.

    2. After I still didn’t enjoy volleyball because we didn’t have enough time in this unit so I didn’t get any new skills.

  25. 1. I was happy with my volleyball skills and I don’t think I needed anything to improve on that much. I mostly only needed to improve on serving kind of.
    2. Not really because I’m on a volleyball team and I’m happy with how I’ve been playing.

  26. 1) I wanted to work more on bumping and setting. I have already done volleyball in the past and took a class this summer but when I broke my arm I had to stop. So this unit I just wanted to practice I didn’t learn anything.

    2) I think I improved on my volleyball skills but I didn’t learn anything new.

  27. Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific)

Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve?

I feel like I learned how to pass a little better but I also feel like the unit was short. I think we should have another two weeks of volleyball.

  28. 1. I wanted to learn how to play the game. I also wanted to improve my bumping skills.
    2. I didn’t really learn how to play the game because we didn’t play enough games but I improved on Neukum.

  29. 1. Last year I was on the volleyball team at school, and I wasn’t very good. Before this unit, I wanted to work on serving and bumping.
    2. I did not improve really on any of the skills I wanted to learn, but I learned more about the game itself but I hope to improve when I am on the volleyball team this year.

  30. Before we started volleyball I wanted to know how to hit right. I also wanted to know how to rally.
Now, most of the time I hit the ball it does not hurt. now I can rally in a real game and hit back and forth.

  31. Before we started the unit, I had always wanted to play volleyball and learn how, but I had no idea how to play. Whenever I hit the ball, it hurt really bad and I wanted to know how to hit while it wouldn’t hurt.

I think that I improved on both of those skills, because I know how to play the game, and almost every time I hit the ball, it does not hurt.

  32. Before we started working on volleyball I wanted to work on bumping.I also wanted to work on serving.
I feel like I didn’t really improve that much. I also don’t feel like I learned anything new.

  33. 1: Before we started volleyball I wanted to work on being better at serving… But I didn’t really succeed.

2: I think I did learn a little more about the rules of vollyball.

  34. 1. One skill I wanted to learn was bumping and setting. I haven’t played volleyball before and those were skills I wanted to learn how to do. I also wanted to learn the rules of volleyball. I have watched it in things like the Olympics and I thought it looks cool.
    2. I feel I kind of learned how to bump and set. With our drills, I have improved on those skills. I haven’t really learned about the rules though.

  35. 1.Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific)

Before we started volleyball, by the end of the unit I knew that the two things I really wanted to improve on was serving and paying attention while playing the games. (Know when the ball was coming towards me and being more attentive)

    2. Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve?

Yes, I do think that I improved on both of the skills that I wanted to improve on. I definitely got better at serving than I was before the unit started. I also became more attentive during volleyball games.

      • I think I got better because I followed instructions and payed attention. I watched how you and other students did it and then I learned from watching and listening.

  36. I wanted to work on serving and blocking. We did not really work on blocking but still got to try it. It was really fun. I got to work on serving. I did approve on both but mostly serving.

  37. I wanted to work on setting. I also wanted to work on hitting the ball on a certain part of my arm.I achieved my goal by working a lot on setting and having my partner work on setting with me.

  38. 1. Before volleyball, I wanted to improve on bumping and setting
    2. I improved my bumping and setting a BIT. I improved because I entered this unit with an open mindset. I also was bumping and setting everyday in gym class, therefore I improved by practice.

  39. I wanted to work on under and overhand serves
Yes I did learn something because I we practiced a lot and we played a lot.

  40. 1. At the beginning of the unit, I wanted to work on bumping because I was really bad and it really hurt my hands.
    2. Now I am better at bumping but it still really hurts a lot to bump.

  41. Before we started volleyball what were one to two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? I wanted to work on bumping and serving. I believe I improved on bumping but it is definitely not my best skill. I do think I have improved well in serving.
Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve? Yes I do think I improved because like I said before I improved on my serving. I think I improved the most on my self confidence regarding volleyball. Before I felt I was really bad at volleyball. Now I feel a bit better about my skills.

  42. 1. I wanted to learn how to serve better because I was not to good at it. I also wanted to learn how to hit it without it hurting my hand.
    2. I think I learned how to serve better because I worked hard on getting it over the net. when I hit the ball it still hurts my hand maybe w could get shown exactly where to hit the ball on your hand it would have worked out better.

  43. 1. In volleyball I wanted to work on serving and setting. I wanted to work on them because I think I am really bad at them.

    2. I feel like I did not improve. I did not improve because the ball hurts my hands when I hit it.

  44. 1: I didn’t really want to work on anything, just surviving the unit was good enough for me. It would have been nice to occasionally bump the ball over the net though.

2: I don’t think I improved because I was still missing bumps when we played volleyball. I think I didn’t improve because I didn’t put forth my best effort. Every time we played I kind of hung to the side so I didn’t have to have contact with the ball.

  45. Before we started volleyball what were one or two skills or things you wanted to work on, improve on, or learn by the end of the unit? (Be specific) I wanted to work on my bumping and setting.
Looking at your answer to question number one, do you feel like you learned something new or improved on a skill? If your answer is yes, why do you think you learned something new or improved? If your answer is no, why do you think you did not learn something new or improve? Yes, I did improve. I think I improved because every class, we would do drills on both bumping and setting.

  46. Before I started volleyball I wanted to improve my serving. I also wanted to improve my hitting because that the main volleyball skill.

I think at the end of this unit I am a lot better at serving farther over the net. I am a little bit better at hitting since the ball is going towards my partner better. I am a much better volleyball player after this unit.

  47. In this unit, wanted to get better at bumping and setting. I found that I am really bad at aiming where I hit the ball, and wanted to get better at hitting the ball correctly so I could actually hit it over the net.
I think that I now know how to bump correctly, but I am not sure if the way I learned is actually the correct way. However, I got better at hitting the ball, but I still can’t aim very well.

  48. 2 skills I wanted to work on were bumping and setting. I new how to do all of that, but I wasn’t quiet good at it and wanted to get better at it. By the end of the unit I feel like I did improve on the skills I wanted to improve on but not fully. We had time to work on those skills while playing the games but we didn’t have time to really focus specifically on what each individual wanted to achieve.

  49. I wanted to work on setting. I wanted to work on bumping.
I think that I did improve on both due to many drills and bumping circles. I look forward to actually playing volley ball more than twice instead of doing drills though. 🙂
