Passover Rube Goldberg

My Seder Plate/Table item: Shank Bone

My Plague: Darkness

Today my group worked on brainstorming how to  turn of the lights and turn them back on.Our ideas include:Using string attached to something to turn off the lights and  using a lever to fling a ball up at the turned of lights to turn them back on. Materials we need: Big binder ring (kind of like the rings Gev. Clyde has), Thick string, a spoon, a spool, a clear tube thing and, the red toy car with the flip up things(maybe gas pumps?). These are just the ideas we came up with today, so we may need more supplies, but we haven’t got to thinking about other supplies yet.

The part of this assignment that I think will be most challenging is testing the Rube Goldberg and making it because we have to have a lot of patience to make the Rube Goldberg work.

I read through the rubric and here are my questions:

I don’t really understand why there are things in quotes.

Next steps for my group include figuring out the rest of the Rube Goldberg and how we re going to make it work.

Materials I need to start gathering:

SM is maybe bringing LOL surprise dolls to make fall over because it’s dark, so “they can’t see”.

We don’t really know what else we are bringing because, we were mainly focusing on how to get the Rube Goldberg  to make the lights go on and off, so we didn’t really have time to plan what to bring.

Boat Challenge-Day Four

HL: Documenting

OC and SM: Presenting/Testing

First, OC and SM got a new balloon and a new straw

Then, SM put the straw in the balloon and tied it of with a rubber band

After that, OC blew up the balloon.

The first time OC blew up a balloon, it didn’t work because there was a hole in the straw

The second time though, it worked when OC blew up the balloon because SM got a new straw

Then OC and SM tested/presented the boat.

When OC and SM presented the boat, it moved!!

Then we took the balloon out of the water and SM and OC took the balloon and the straw out of the boat and threw it out.

We accomplished making the boat work and move  today: ; I was able to accomplish this because we put the straw and balloon in the milk carton right.

Boat Challenge-Day Three

HL: Documenting

SM and OC: Building the boat

Boat Day Three

OC and SM took our cut milk carton from yesterday and blew up a new balloon with the straw.

Then we put it into the water a let go of the ballon.

It moved a little but we still need to figure out how to make it move all the way across the basin.

OC got it to move the second time we tried!

SM decided to take pictures of are process.

YAY!! It worked.

What worked was that after we flipped the balloon around, it floated better.

What didn’t work was before we flipped the balloon around, the boat kept sinking.

Conflict in Fiction Tutorial

Think about a book you’re reading now or one you’ve read recently. What type of conflict occurred in the story? Describe it using specific details from the text.

Book: The 39 Clues Unstoppable Series

Conflict: Pierce was trying to make Amy and Dan look bad by making bad newspapers and took the serum so Amy and Dan (and their friends) had to find the antidote to stop Pierce from being so powerful.

Type of Conflict: Character vs Society because Pierce made Amy and Dan look like bad people and Pierce had a lot of people working with him.

How did it move the rest of the story along?

The ingredients for the antidote were really hard to find, because some of the ingredients were from things that were extinct or really rare, and were scattered around the world, so during the four books (The 39 Clues Unstoppable is a four book series) Amy, Dan, Jake and Atticus went all over the world. I think that the author made it so that the ingredients were around the world so the books would be more interesting and so it could be a series of books rather than in just one book and they found the ingredients in one book.

Was the conflict resolved? How? If not, how do you think it will be resolved?

Yes it was resolved because they found the antidote and made Pierce normal again, and now Pierce couldn’t take over the world.

Boat Challenge-Day Two

HL: Documenting
OC and SM: Building the boat

My group decided to build a ballon boat.

SM washed out our milk carton
OC and SM taped the drinking hole shut
OC and SM cut one of the sides of the milk carton out
OC cut a tiny hole in the back of the boat
OC put a straw in the balloon and tried it in with a rubber band
OC blew up the balloon from a straw
SM also did what OC did
SM and OC put the blown up ballon with the straw into the milk carton
SM and OC put the boat in the water and… it did not work so well.
Next time we did a bigger basin!

Something that we could do better next time is, since today we couldn’t figure out how to blow up the balloon through the straw, make sure that we don’t wrap the rubber band around the straw to tight because that’s why we couldn’t blow up the balloon.
