Becoming a better parent

I hope you are enjoying the summer. As you are spending time with your children, friends and family, I urge you to take ten minutes to read THIS article and choose a few of the suggested strategies as they will help you become a better parent, colleague and friend. Come back to this post throughout the year as a reminder of how to best support your child.

For context, I’d like to share an email that the Nicolet Principal sent to MJDS earlier this year. Dr. Kabara’s email is evidence of how MJDS partners with families, to educate children, allowing us to continue to support student learning and enhance students’ perceptions of themselves as competent learners.

From Dr. Kabara:

“I had the opportunity to briefly scan the overall data from our Junior Knights STAR testing.  The MJDS data was excellent. You and your team should be very proud of the students that you are graduating.  I personally had time to speak with the students while they were at Nicolet. More importantly than academics, you should be extremely proud of the outstanding people that you have helped develop.”

  1. Thank you for bringing us into the fold. I will do my best not to ask, “How was your day?” I have much more interesting things (what did they ask, wonder, think) to hear about!

Also, although we see results in our own kids, it is nice to have external feedback that supports what we know about MJDS- thank you for sharing the letter from Dr. Kabara.

  2. Some good ideas here. I know it’s hard to always remember how to talk to our kids – but I love not rescuing my daughters. They are learning how to be resilient, and I like that.
