programming Hanukkah cards

  1. Describe what you were supposed to do                                                                                                                                                                                  to program and create a Hanukkah card
  2. Describe your experience as a Scratch programmer. Is it something you are expert in or a novice?                                                                       I just started this and I really liked it. I might use it for my animations.
  3. Reflect on what was easy and what was challenging                                                                                                                                                           it was easy making the characters but it was hard to code it. ( but then the teacher showed me how)
  4. What did you learn in a process?                                                                                                                                                                                             how to code!
  5. Provide a link to your card                                                                                                                                                                                                             scratch
  6. Add instructions on how to use your card. Assume that the user has never used Scratch before. For example, sometimes you need to click on something for an effect to take place.                                                                                                                                                                      so you make or add characters first then, you code what you want the character to do. if you want, you can use an example from someone else’s code

Testing our Rapunzel Creations

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

we used cardboard, model magic, tape, hot glue, slime ingredients because of cardboard, tape and hot glue for the tower, model magic for characters, and slime ingredients for slime.

Here is a picture of my plan:

cannot show

Here is a picture of my first attempt at the building process:

cannot show

While you test:

What are you noticing?

the slime is really solid so the princess bounces off of it and the slide is very steep. also, the prince and the princess’s legs keep falling off

What things are working?

the slide and also the tower is still standing.

What things are not working?

the window is too small and the character’s legs are always falling off no matter how much hot glue I put on

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

make the window bigger and make the slide less steep. also, make the characters more sturdy and replace the slime with something else because the slime is just not working. and maybe add more detail to the tower because it looks kinda dull.

Do you need any new materials? If so, WHY?

yes because we may need more or new materials for tweaking.

Sketch your new design with labels on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is detailed and specifically labeled.

Insert your sketch here:

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

it will work because we thought it through better and we learned from mistakes

building reflection

What about the building process was challenging?

figuring out what we were going to do about the slime

How did your build differ from your plan? (If your build was different than your plan, update your plan!)

nope.

How did your group work well together during the build? What would you do again?

yes and I would help on the castle more because I didn’t contribute much one day

How did your group struggle during the build? What would you change?

we struggled with the slime but we finally found a way to fix it.

explorer reflection

What about this project went well for you? Explain.

making the comic book because that’s what I do best

What about this project did not go well for you? Explain.

getting the research done because there was not much information that I needed

How can you create a better project next time?

get better information

How did you think the planning process went? Were you able to find all the information you needed?

no, because like I said before I did not find that much information

What could Adon Kaufman and Gev. Noorlander do differently next time?

nothing because I really liked the project and it was fun

What impact did explorers make?

they helped shape the new world

dissection reflection

  • What is the value of dissecting?

to learn about the functions of the body

  • How did the dissection help you understand what is happening between the sea lamprey and the trout?

that the sea lamprey is consuming all the trout because the sea lamprey has an advantage

  • How did you feel about dissection? If you enjoyed the process, why did you enjoy it? If you did not enjoy it, what was difficult about it I honestly just couldn’t do it because I’m non-pescetarian but I’m glad other people had fun.

Rapunzel planning reflection

How did spending more time on planning to improve your final blueprint?

it made it look nice and we were able to find all the pieces better

How did your group come to one final plan after brainstorming several ideas?

we found the most fun one

Why do you think taking more time to plan was important?

we got to plan out all the steps better

Did brainstorming with multiple people help you come up with more ideas? How?

they may have better and smarter ideas than me

What would you differently during the planning process next time?

work harder to find more ideas.
