Sukkah Day 12

This is me walking to my wall and not smiling for the camera

This is me walking to my wall with other groups congregating around something

Another picture of my wall in the distance

That is my groups wall in the distance

This is my friend pulling out a nail when practicing

Sukkah Day 12

. What did your group accomplish today? We completed a lot of studs and we secured the bottom plate corner.

2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished? We have to secure the bottom plate and secure a few studs.

3. Explain how well your group communicated/participated today. Be sure to include one specific example. We communicated great besides the few yells. For example, when we were moving our wall if when we needed to stop everyone stopped immediately when we needed to pick it up we did just that.

Sukkah Day 10

1. What did your group accomplish today? We secured another corner in the one hour we had.

2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished? We have a door frame and studs with a bottom plate.

3. What help do you need from me (Adon Kaufman) or your classmates? Be specific. I need help putting the nails in my group is nailing inefficiently.

This is a groupmate cutting wood for our door frame.

Sukkah Day 9

1. Describe what skills (s) you have learned so far. Who taught you those skills? How did they teach you those skills? How have you mastered those skills?  I have learned to drill screws better and to nail big nails. I learned the skills by myself. Lots of practice. I am far from mastering those skills but I can do those skills somewhat proficiently.

2. Explain if you believe your group is ahead of behind other groups. Explain why you believe you are at that point. I think we are right in the middle. I don’t think we are behind but we are definitely not ahead.  I think this because there is a group finished or close to finishing their wall but there is also a group that is barely started.

3. How effectively did your group communicate and collaborate with each other? Provide one SPECIFIC example to support your point. We communicated greatly.  I was doing nails and my partner screws; it was that simple.  My third partner was watching us do this.

4. Today is a complete reset from last week. What is one goal YOU have for yourself? Explain why you picked that goal. I want to nail the nails in straighter. I picked this because aI nailed some nails crooked.

5. What is one goal you have for YOUR team? Explain why you picked that goal. To do more on our wall. The reason I picked this goal was that our deadline is near.

This is me hammering a nail in.

Sukkah Day 8

1. What are the five steps to solving a problem (please list the steps)? Define the problem. Stay calm and remind yourself that you can work it out. Use calming strategies if you need them. Think of at least three ways to solve the problem. Discuss solutions. If the solution works you are done if not use another solution.

2. Your group identified a problem you were experiencing. What was the problem? What were your solutions? We weren’t communicating well. One solution was to take a break. The second was to stop talking until you are cooled off. The third was to compromise on anything you were fighting about.

3. Describe how it felt working with your group after you identified your problem and came up with solutions. We stopped fighting about stupid stuff like what we should get. It felt good not to argue.

Sukkah Day 7

1. Provide a SPECIFIC example of when you or a member of your group struggled to communicate effectively, with empathy, or appropriately. Make sure to include: At the end of class my group struggled a lot. We were yelling at each other and weren’t getting things done. The reason why this bad communication happened was that we were very stressed out over the whole sukkah project. I felt very angry and mad. I think if we just talked about what we were doing then we could have avoided the whole situation.
a. What led to that situation of miscommunication
b. How you felt when the miscommunication happened
c. How that miscommunication should have been handled instead

2. Explain how poor communication let your team down. Make sure to include:
a. What was your team goal
b. What did you achieve in comparison to your team goal
We had to start cleaning up before other groups and we lost time. Our team goal was to finish the wall and start working on studs but that didn’t happen. We almost finished our second 2 by 4 by 12.
3. Describe one positive example of communication you witnessed/did yesterday during class. Make sure to include:
a. What was the situation
b. How did it feel different
c. What the outcome of that communication was

All the other groups did very well from what I saw. One of the groups had s[specific jobs to do which I thought made them work way better than our group’s communication. It felt like we were behind. They finished a lot of their boards.

Sukkah Day 6

1. You spent time reflection on past blog posts (looking at your strengths and weaknesses).
Describe the value, using a specific example from your blog post, of looking back and reflecting on our work. I think there is a lot of value when your reflecting because you need to figure out how to do better at certain things. For example I said on my reflection that I have detailed answers and you can look on sukkah day 5 there is a lot of detail.

2. We started to build our walls. What would you have done differently during the process and WHY? Explain what you did and how your fix would have made it better? I would have made sure we had every material we could possibly need, give specific jobs to people and to listen to instructions better so I have a better understanding of how to build my wall.I asked my teacher the questions I needed answered and looked for the materials I didn’t have.

Egg Drop Challenge

This is my design 2nd design this is an improvement over the first design.

How does your prototype protect the egg? The wooden rods break the fall of the egg, because the kinetic energy has to go some where and the rods are where the kinetic energy is supposed to go.
Describe your design process, in detail. First, I made a few sketch’s on a piece of paper. Second, my partner and I chose which apparatus’s we liked the most. Then, we made the first design. After that, I decided that I wanted to make my apparatus smaller after the first one succeeded almost every time. Lastly, I discovered that it went over the 25 cm by 25 cm by 25 cm limit so I tried to cut the size down and failed. On the last day I succeeded in making it smaller.

What worked well in your design? The wooden sticks worked very well. There wasn’t even a hairline fracture in the egg. The second design worked well, too. The balloons worked in breaking the fall.
What was challenging throughout this process? What would you do differently? The challenge was when I found out that my apparatus was to big. I had to measure then cut all the wooden rods protruding out of my apparatus.  I would measure my apparatus before the last day.

Sukkah Organization (Day 5)

Describe the restorative circle process (when we wrote on our note cards and shared). Include: how you felt writing your note card, how you felt sharing your note card, how you felt if/when someone shared a note card with you. Writing just felt like writing because I didn’t really have much to write about. It was just like saying a regular sentence except that I was apologizing. It made me feel a little weird, I don’t think any of the note cards actually meant anything except the ones where the teacher did because all of these were forced apologies.

2. Describe how much easier/harder it was to bring the wood in when we were all working together. Include: how did it feel to work together, how were you communicating, how quickly things got done when we worked together. It felt good, I liked the weather not because it was gloomy but because it was so warm and not many people were fighting or arguing like when our class did anything else together. We were communicating well because none of us were yelling at each other, there were a few instances where people weren’t paying attention but other than that it was good. It went by very quickly, I wasn’t surprised at how much we accomplished because I think most of my classmates think we can accomplish a lot more than we do.
