10 Things I’m thankful for: the Jewish version

You know it’s Thanksgiving time when you’re second grade brother comes home with his part for the Thanksgiving play. Okay, but seriously, the weather is getting colder and guest lists are being counted for the Thanksgiving dinner. So, it’s the perfect time to write things that you’re thankful for! Here are some things I am thankful for, relating to Judaism of course.

  1. Being able to do an aliyah hatorah. Seriously, it’s been annoying not to have full Jewish rights
  2. Breadmakers. It may not seem Jewish related, but our breadmaker is used to create the best challah ever.
  3. Kugel. My mom can make a pretty good kugel, and it’s always the choice for birthday dinners.
  4. Israel (marzipan). I love being Jewish and having a connection to Israel, especially because Marzipan is pretty amazing.
  5. Gefilte fish. You either love it or hate it, and I definitely love it!
  6. All the holidays. Other people only have a couple of major holidays, but I get a ton of chances to eat and hang out with family. The days off of school aren’t bad either.
  7. Being different. My religion is the one different thing I have going for me, the one thing that sets me apart from my non-Jewish friends. It makes me feel special.
  8. Going to a jewish school school. It’s been amazing making friends who share the same religion as me and I’ve had amazing memories and learned a lot. I’ll be sad to leave.
  9. Going to a jewish overnight camp. The amount of spirit that we have is incredible. I feel like my judaism has meaning at camp.
  10. Food. Going along with the Jewish stereotype, if there’s one thing us Jews know how to do it’s cook and eat. And the food is pretty darn good.

So that’s what I’m thankful for. If you have your own lists, feel free to comment them below!
