Talking about God

In God Talk, we are exploring many different ideas about God.  In this class period, I was inspired while sitting in Yom Kippur services, so we looked at the Yom Kippur prayer Ki Anu Amecha (We are Your people.)  We discussed the translation of the prayer, the different lines we liked, the ones that made us uncomfortable, and what we might change.  At the end of our discussion, all students were given a chance to write their own line.  They had almost no preparation time, and it was done publicly on the white boards and smart board in the room.  The results were profound.

We are your present, You are our beginning.

We are Your creations, and You are our Creator.

You are the grapes and we are the wine.

We are your books and You are our Library.

You are the King and we are the people.

We are your sons and You are my Parents.

We are the game and You are the console.

You are our Creator, and we are Your creations.

It’s only our second session of God Talk, and these students are profound!  I can’t wait to see what else they come up with.
