Mapping Energy Transfers

This week in science we have been focusing on mapping energy transfers. We discussed the transfer of energy on a roller coaster, when lighting a match, when using a pull back car toy, the list goes on and on. Below you will see an energy transfer and the why/how behind it.

Object or thing I choose to observe: Computer

The mapping of the energy transfers: Electrical – Motion – Gravitational – Electrical – Electrical

A paragraph that explains the how and why of each step of the energy transfer(s) I observed: Electrical because that’s what powers computers, Motion because the computer opening, and Gravitational because the computer is still.

Cereal Box Challenge

Today’s Challenge: Create a new kind of cereal and its box. Using a piece of poster board, you and your team need to create your own box, with the goal of having the largest possible volume.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Participation): I think that I can participate really well because I have a good idea.

My Individual Plan: I am going to make the McDonalds and Yeezy cereal box.

Why I think my plan will be successful: Because it is going to be really funny.

Our Group’s Plan:

We chose this plan because… I was really fun.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction… We argued a bit.

Each team member will be responsible for… Tape, Fold, color.

After the Build

Our design worked well because… I was challenging.

This activity was challenging because… We argued.

This activity was comfortable because…. We accomplished it at the end.

I met my teamwork participation goal by… Working together.

A strength of my team was…. At the end we worked well

An area of growth for my team is… That next time we wont argue.

For our next challenge, my new teamwork participation goal for myself is…. To not argue.

Index Card Challenge

Today’s Challenge: Using only an index card and a scissors find a way to cut your index card so you can fit your entire body through it.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Organization/Planning): To have piles on he paper that we are going to use and the paper that we’ve used.

My goal for organization/planning today within my team is… To cut it into strips and make kind of like a complex plan because then if we do this that it would work.

My Individual Plan:

Why I think my plan will be successful: Because it connects and we will do this for the whole time.

Our Group’s Plan: To have the paper cross each piece.

We chose this plan because… It is useful and will work.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction… I probably won’t work.

Each team member will be responsible for… A different thing.

After the Build

we didn’t finish……

Our design worked well because… It didn’t…….

This activity was challenging because… it fell apart at the last 30 seconds….

This activity was comfortable because…. it wasn’t….

I met my teamwork organization/planning goal by… we worked together….

A strength of my team was…. teamwork….

An area of growth for my team is… think of more ideas…..

For our next challenge, my new teamwork organization/planning goal for myself is…. To have a plan “B”.

Why are Midterm Elections Important?

What do Midterm Elections decide in the government? People can decide the Representatives of the Government. Then it helps them.

How are citizens impacted by Midterm Elections? Because Representatives are leaders or should be leaders. Then the world would be a better place.

What can citizens do to get people they want elected? Ask people to vote for them. Because they want it there way.

Why do Midterm Elections exist? Because that work that they do also makes the world  a better place. And then the world can be a better place for people.

Why is it important for different groups of people to run for government positions? Because they want that part and they think that they are doing good.

Science – Producers, Consumers, Herbivore, Carnivore

Carnivore:

A carnivore is something that only eats meat and does not eat anything else.

Example: Hyena, Polar Bears, Whales.

Herbivore:

An herbivore is something that only eats plants.

Example: Cows, Horses, Deer, Sheep

Producers:

A producers is an organism that makes its own food. All green plants are producers.

Example:  Apple tree, Orange tree, Watermelon, Banana Tree.

Consumers: A consumer is an organism that feeds on another organism. All animals are organisms and consumers.

Example: Bears, Lions, Baboons.
