Natures Recyclers: I Wonder

10/18/2017 I Wonder Reflection

  1. What happens to the little pieces of dead plants and animals that scavengers leave behind?  It could be eaten by other scavengers. It could just decompose because the scavenger ate a lot of it. Or it could be buried by the wind by getting dirt blown over it.
  2. What happens to the scavengers’ droppings? Some scavengers eat it. Since it’s natural waste it could decompose. Or when/if people kicked it around and it would eventually get buried.
  3. What happens to the scavengers’ bodies when they die?  The beetles make a hole under the dead beetle and bury it. The beetles also roll up the body in a ball and (if it has feathers) pull them off. If the beetles get there when the animal is dry, they eat it.
