Jewish Studies Poem

This is the poem that I wrote for Jewish studies. It is about the sacrifices we had o make this week because of Covid-19.

Inside all day, that’s where we are, Coronavirus will end but it seems so far. We go outside but with no one to play, and this is what we do every day. I hope one day this will all die down but until then let’s smile not frown.

Sukkah Day 19

1. Now that the Sukkah is finished, what would you do differently next time? Explain in at least three sentences why you think that.
Next time I would slow down and make sure that I have the correct budget. I say this because we went over budget, making out Sukkah almost fail a little bit. It is probably because we kind of rushed and didn’t check in with our budget.

2. Now that the Sukkah is finished, what are you most proud of and why! Explain in at least three sentences.

I am most proud of that WE built this! I think that it’s so cool that we were able to build this. I also think that it’s cool that we designed the Sukkah and went shopping for it.

3. What are three pieces of advice you have for the current 6th graders as it relates to their Sukkah?

  1. Make sure you don’t go over budget-take time and recheck.
  2. Check with your group to always know what you are doing.
  3. Make sure you are being productive with your time.

This is our fake plant-we didn’t have time to get real ones.

These are drill bits.

Sukkah Day 18

We have a ladder up so we a put the scach up

We are drilling in the plywood

1. Explain how the Sukkah represents Judaism to you. If it does not, explain why.
It represents Judaism to me because we built it and Sukkot is a Jewish holiday. We also got to design it and make it how we wanted.
2. What part of the Sukkah building process are you most excited to share with families/friends and why?
I am excited to show them the sukkah because we worked hard on it and even if it wasn’t that good, we still tried.
3. What aspect of the building have you felt most connected to and why?
I was most connected to the milk carton decorations because I think it was something that I could do and know WHAT I’m doing, which felt like I was leading something.
4. How has building the Sukkah as a class helped grow your sense of community?
It helped because we had to all work together even if we didn’t want to and showed that when you work together, you can do great things. (Teamwork makes the dream work)
5. When your family comes to the Sukkah on Wednesday night, what is one thing you are going to tell them about and why?

I will tell them about why are plywood is different and why are scach is extra kosher because most other groups didn’t do that.

This is the plywood clamped to the sukkah so we can drill it in

Sukkah Day 17

1. Sukkot represents impermanence (something that should not be permanent). Explain if you believe or disagree that our Sukkah, which is safely standing on its own, is violating that.

I don’t think it is violating that because just because it is freestanding doesn’t mean it can’t be taken down or moved. But if we like cemented it into the ground, then it would be violating the rules. Because that would take a while to get our of the ground.

2. Describe how this Sukkah project has changed your perspective (how has it changed, what has it changed about, has it changed for the better/worst).

I think the sukkah kind of went downhill from the moment we realized we were over budget in lowes. It doesn’t look BAD, it just looks kind of unprofessional.

3. Explain how you have used your body thus far to build this Sukkah.

I used my body to help carry wood and drill stuff in.  I also helped load up the bus and make decorations.

4. How do you plan on getting guests into the Sukkah?

I plan on having each class have time to go in.

5. What are some activities you wish to do in the Sukkah?

I want to eat a meal in there and do something in there at night.

This is one of our walls, it was painted black

This is our scach

We are putting up the scach

Sukkah Day 16

This is what our window looks like

This is the finished milk carton logo

We are drilling in a board for the window

1. What did you do today (describe the process of what you accomplished)? – minimum of 3 complete sentences
I did touch-ups on the milk cartons today. As I was doing that, they started to fall apart and I kind of freaked out. Next time I will fix the milk cartons. That day I also helped put up a wall and ring over our giant whiteboard.
2. What is one thing you have done so far you were initially scared/worried about, but now feel more confident in after all this practice? – minimum of 3 complete sentences

2. What is one thing you have done so far you were initially scared/worried about, but now feel more confident in after all this practice? – minimum of 3 complete sentences

Sukkah Day 14

1. Explain in at least two sentences what YOU accomplished today.

I glued the milk cartons together with the help of Se21 and Oc21. We are making the letters; M, J, D, and, S to make the MJDS logo.

2. Explain in at least two sentences what YOUR GROUP accomplished today.
My group completed the S,J, and, D for the MJDS. The other part of my group did the frame for the window
3. Explain in at least two sentences what YOUR GROUP has to finish tomorrow. If you don’t know, ask a group member.

We have to finish the milk cartons. We also have to finish the window frame.

Sukkah Day 13

1. Today, we worked on putting the studs in and it felt cool to do this because we finished our studs that day.

2. An example of when I worked well with a classmate was when me and Se21 were cutting the wood together. I cut and she too the wood outside and it worked really well.

3. I have the window, plywood and decorations left on my Sukkah wall. I am feeling good about the amount of work left.

Sukkah Day 12

This is the studs that worked together to put in by helping each other cut the wood and drill it in

This is us hammering in the nails to our studs. We worked together because Me and Se21 cut and Jw21 and Es21 hammered and drilled

We are working on practicing nails. The reason we did this is that a lot of our nails were crooked
