Sukkah Day 6

1. You spent time reflecting on past blog posts (looking at your strengths and weaknesses).
Describe the value, using a specific example from your blog post, of looking back and reflecting on our work.

It was important to look back to make sure that we had everything because I forgot a picture so my blog wasn’t complete so I got A comment that said I should fix it which helped so I would remember to fix it.

2. We started to build our walls. What would you have done differently during the process and WHY? Explain what you did and how your fix would have made it better.

I would try to ask what to help with more because sometimes I was standing around wondering what to do because it didn’t seem like my group needed help. Next time I will make sure I know what to help with.

Invention Convention Ideas

These are my ideas for invention convention:

  • A foldable puppet show that folds into something easy to carry
  • A cat obstacle course
  • A custom cat toy
  • Something that shows you your stove and doors at night so you can make sure everything is locked without leaving bed
  • A foldable playground/obstacle course for boring backyards
  • An umbrella heater for eating outside or walking long distances in the cold
  • A button on your bike so when you are biking and you are too far away from your parents then you press it and your parents will get an alert on their bike
  • A pop-socket to hide things in
  • A slot for your purse for your boarding pass when you are flying
  • A book with a built-in light
  • Clothes your cat will actually like
  • An ice maker that dispenses food and juices

San Diego Breakout Reflection

  • How did having limited time to play the game impact your teamwork?
  • It didn’t really affect us but some people got distracted because things weren’t working
    • What strategies might you use to help this?
    • I would add another strategy which would be “make sure everyone is helping”
      • What tips would you suggest to others?
    • I would suggest to others that everyone should make sure everyone is helping in some way
  • How did having limited time impact or shape your thinking during the game?
  • It didn’t really affect my thinking
    • What strategies might you use to support your thinking?
    • I would use “make sure you are clicking on everything” because we missed something because we didn’t click on everything
    • What tips would you suggest to others?
    • I would suggest making sure you are looking closely at everything
  • In what way(s) were your critical thinking and strategies different during the timed games than they were during the initial games?
  • This game was definitely a lot harder so everyone got kind of frustrating so I don’t think we worked as well as we could have
  • What Top 3 strategies/tips would you suggest to others when playing a timed game?
  • I would add some and they would be;
  • Don’t let the timer stress you out
  • Click on everything
  • Read all of the instructions before you start

Minecraft Reflection

  • What did you notice or observe during this challenge?

I noticed that to solve the codes you had to pay attention to the pictures and look closely

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

I asked myself “what kind of codes make sense for this clue?”

  • What was your “aha” moment during this challenge? How did this impact finishing the challenge?

I didn’t really have one

  • How did this challenge compare to the other two we have completed?

It was kind of harder and had a lot more links to click on

  • What was the most challenging aspect of this challenge?

The most challenging aspect was probably figuring out if we needed commas or not

  • What two strategies helped you and your team the most when completing the challenge? (Use the strategy sheet for this! If you used a different strategy, list it here as well)

We used click on everything and look closely.

Silly Shamrock Reflection

  • What did you notice or observe during this challenge?

I noticed that even though there were more locks than last time, we actually finished faster (I think). I also think the clues were more obvious this time.

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

I asked myself what kind of clues a picture could be giving us, I thought about other ways to rearrange the code if it didn’t work.

  • How did the time limit impact your ability to solve this breakout session?

I don’t really think it impacted our ability to solve it because we were still able to finish.

  • What were your biggest connections when solving this challenge?

My biggest connections were when I found out, for example, what a colored clover was, or what the code was.

  • What was the most challenging aspect of this challenge?

The most challenging aspect was I think the color lock because it was really hard and didn’t make sense.

  • What two strategies helped you and your team the most when completing the challenge?

Two strategies that helped us were looking closely at all of the pictures and trying different orders of numbers.

OG’s Great Adventure Blog Post

  • What did you notice or observe during the challenge?

I noticed that each puzzle gave us clues and I also noticed that it was hard to guess the codes.

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

I asked myself questions like, “What is the code?” and, “Could this have something to do with the code?”

  • When did you first begin drawing connections between the different puzzles and pictures?

I first drew some connections after we solved the suzzle and I figured out the number code.

  • What were those connections?

The connections were that the number of spikes the dinosaur had was the number code.

  • What were your biggest clues?

My biggest clue was when I figured out that the color and the number of spikes on the dinosaur was a code.

  • What was the most challenging?

The most challenging was finding the number code because I didn’t know that we weren’t supposed to use commas so I actually typed in the right code first, but with commas, so I went through like 15 more codes before I got the right code again.

  • What was your biggest ah-ha moment? Why?

My biggest ah-ha momment was when I figured out that the letter came from a sentence we needed to solve.

Final Clue Blog Post

  • What thinking moves did you use when playing this game (questioning, connecting, listening, observing, deducing, reasoning, etc?

I used the strategy where you guess two things that you have, and if no one has the third thing you asked, then you know it was the weapon/room/person.

  • How did organizing your information impact your experience playing the game?

It really helped because I would not have been able to keep track of things without it.

  • Where else do you use these thinking skills (at school, at home, on sports teams, etc)?

You kind of need to use logic in math because you need to find the answer, but I’m not sure.

  • When might you need this kind of thinking?

If you are in a situation when you are in trouble and need to get help, logic will help you.

Clue Blog Post

  • What did you notice or observe during the game?

I had never played Clue before I played it in class so I kind of noticed/observed what kind of game it is, how to play…etc. I also noticed that Clue is a really fun game and I really liked playing it.

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself?

I asked myself questions like, “What room should I go in?”, “Who do I think did the crime?”, and things like that. Since I had never played before, I was also asking myself questions like, “How do I play this game?”, and “Is it my turn?”

  • When did you first begin drawing connections between different characters, clues, pieces of information?

I started noticing connections as soon as I asked if someone did it the first time because then I knew that it wasn’t them if someone showed me a card.

  • What were those connections?

The connections were like, “Well if I saw the card with Miss Orchid and the card with the wrench, then I know it wasn’t her with the wrench”. I wasn’t very good at the game yet though, so I probably was not making good connections.

  • What were your biggest clues?

We didn’t get that far into the game, so we didn’t really get “big clues”.

  • What information seems most important to collect?

I think people are the most important thing to get information on because you will probably get clues about the room and weapon along the way. I’m not sure though because this was my first time playing clue.

  • *What is the difference between an observation and information?

Information is things you know and observation is more of a guess than an official answer. I’m not sure if I am right though.

Testing Our Rapunzel Creations

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

We chose to use model magic for the Rapunzel because it would be sturdy and easy to shape. We used cardboard for the castle because it would also be sturdy.

Here is a picture of my plan:

Here is a picture of my first attempt at the building process:

While you test:

What are you noticing?

We are noticing that our idea isn’t that realistic because the water would evaporate and the dirt wouldn’t stay in a pool shape. So in real life, when she jumped, there wouldn’t really be any water so she wouldn’t survive(probably).

What things are working?

Our tower stands up straight and doesn’t fall over and I think we have a nice design. I’m also really proud of how our Rapunzel turned out.

What things are not working?

Rapunzel would get hurt because she is jumping from such a high tower, and our water isn’t deep enough. Our plan wasn’t really realistic at all.

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

We are going to make a zip line and a slide to go underneath it and she will grab the handles and land in the pool. The pool will be (in Rapunzel’s world) made out of “cement” not dirt because dirt would just collapse.

Do you need more materials?

Yes, we need a thin cardboard tube, string, and blue goo or something sticky. We also might need some cardboard to attach the zip line to, but, we might attach it to the pool.

Sketch your new design with labels on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is detailed and specifically labeled.

Insert your sketch here:

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

It will work better because it is safer and more realistic and it would make Rapunzel fall slower and she will be safer.

Building Reflection

What about the building process was challenging?

We had to cut a cardboard box to get cardboard to use for our project but it was SO hard to cut so that was challenging.

How did your build differ from your plan? (If your build was different than your plan, update your plan!)

It was different from our original plan because in our original plans we used Rapunzel’s tears and in our current plan we use the rain. (we updated our plan though)

How did your group work well together during the build? What would you do again?

We worked together to try and cut the cardboard and we worked together to make a good model magic Rapunzel. (we really like how it looks)

How did your group struggle during the build? What would you change?

It was hard to get the cardboard together with hot glue and then we ended up not even using that cardboard. maybe next time we can make sure the cardboard will fit together.
