Sukkah Day 12

This is the studs that worked together to put in by helping each other cut the wood and drill it in

This is us hammering in the nails to our studs. We worked together because Me and Se21 cut and Jw21 and Es21 hammered and drilled

We are working on practicing nails. The reason we did this is that a lot of our nails were crooked

Sukkah Day 11

1. What did your group accomplish today?
We cut the studs at a angle and put something like 4 studs in.
2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished?
We have to cut the rest of the studs and then nail/screw them in.
3. Explain how well your group communicated/participated today. Be sure to include one specific example.
We communicated well when we were cutting the wood. Es21 was measuring it (where we should cut), me and Se21 were cutting and c arrying wood and Jw21 was helping us with the door
Include at least 1 photo from today, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time).

Sukkah Day 10

1. What did your group accomplish today?

We started measuring and cutting our studs

(We measured wrong so we had to fix it)
2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished?

We need to finish cutting and putting in the studs

3. What help do you need from me (Adon Kaufman) or your classmates? Be specific.

I need my group to all work together (we are doing a pretty good job of that already) and Adon Kaufman to help cut the wood

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time).

We are cutting the wood with the saw

This is our part-done wall

Sukkah Day 9

1. Describe what skills (s) you have learned so far. Who taught you those skills? How did they teach you those skills? How have you mastered those skills?

I have learned:

-How to nail in a nail good

-How to put in a carriage bolt

-How to hand saw

My group taught me the skills by showing me what to do when we were working

I haven’t mastered these skills but I am better at them than how I was before.

2. Explain if you believe your group is ahead of behind other groups. Explain why you believe you are at that point.

I think that we aren’t behind but we also aren’t ahead. I think we would be more ahead if we didn’t have a slant in our wall because we have to cut the wood at the correct angles and the handsaw it the rest of the way.

3. How effectively did your group communicate and collaborate with each other? Provide one SPECIFIC example to support your point.

We communicated and collaborated well when we were cutting the angles in the wood. Everyone (mostly) knew what to do and how to help the team and couldn’t do it without everyone helping.

4. Today is a complete reset from last week. What is one goal YOU have for yourself? Explain why you picked that goal.

My goal is to do more work because I’m doing some but I want to ask my group if there’s more stuff I can help with

5. What is one goal you have for YOUR team? Explain why you picked that goal.

My goal for my team is to finish the slanted part by the end of the week. (however I have no idea how long that would take and if thats to easy of if it’s impossible) I picked that goal because we are a little bit behind and that would help us catch up.

We are lifting the wood so Es21 can put more wood under it so we can saw without sawing into the ground.

Sukkah Day 8

1. What are the five steps to solving a problem (please list the steps)?

-Identify the problem

-Remind yourself that you can work it out

-Think of at least three ways to solve the problem

-Discuss the solution(s) with whoever is involved in it

-If the solution works, you are done. If not, use another strategy.

2. Your group identified a problem you were experiencing. What was the problem? What were your solutions?

The problem was that we didn’t have enough milk cartons. Our solutions were:

-Make announcements

-Cut milk cartons in half (to have more)

-Make the design more basic
3. Describe how it felt working with your group after you identified your problem and came up with solutions?

It felt normal because the problem wasn’t that big and bad. We started doing our studs.

We are putting in our studs in this picture

Sukkah Day 7

1. Provide a SPECIFIC example of when you or a member of your group struggled to communicate effectively, with empathy, or appropriately.

This was probably when we were carrying wood outside because it was confusing where to put the wood and who/how many people should carry it. I felt confused during the miscommunication because I didn’t know what to do. What should have happened is we should have known what to do before we started carrying the wood.
2. Explain how poor communication let your team down.

Poor communication didn’t really ever let our team down and we never really had a big argument. This wasn’t really about poor communication but at one point we were trying to get a nut onto a carriage bolt. It didn’t work and we realized that it was stripped so the nut wouldn’t screw onto it. Jw21 and Es21 had to saw off the stripped ends of the bolts while me and Se21 made sure the other nuts were tight.

3. Describe one positive example of communication you witnessed/did yesterday during class.

We had positive communication when me and Se21 were tightening the nuts around the carriage bolts and Jw21 and Es21 were sawing the other carriage bolts. This felt different because we all knew what to do and I don’t think anyone was confused. The outcome was that Es21 and Jw21 fixed the carriage bolts and me and Se21 knew the nuts were tight.

This is Jw21 and Es21 sawing while me and Se21 are making sure the bolts and washers and nuts are all tight

Sukkah Day 6

1. You spent time reflecting on past blog posts (looking at your strengths and weaknesses).
Describe the value, using a specific example from your blog post, of looking back and reflecting on our work.

It was important to look back to make sure that we had everything because I forgot a picture so my blog wasn’t complete so I got A comment that said I should fix it which helped so I would remember to fix it.

2. We started to build our walls. What would you have done differently during the process and WHY? Explain what you did and how your fix would have made it better.

I would try to ask what to help with more because sometimes I was standing around wondering what to do because it didn’t seem like my group needed help. Next time I will make sure I know what to help with.

Egg Drop Challenge

Describe your prototype design.

My design had half-deflated balloons and newspaper inside a box to hold the egg.b The outside had balloons to help break the fall
How does your prototype protect the egg?

It protects the egg by having padding inside and outside of a cardboard box.
Describe your design process, in detail.

I first made a box with Yg21 (8cm by 8cm by 8cm), then I put newspaper in it, then I realized my balloons deflated so I figured that would still be useful for padding. Then I taped the balloons to it. I tested twice and refiled the box twice. The egg never broke.
What worked well in your design?

My design padded the egg and made it so it wouldn’t break and it didn’t break while testing either. It also was within the building rules (at most it could be 25cm by 25cm by 25cm).
What was challenging throughout this process? What would you do differently?

What was challenging was that overnight the balloons would deflate so next time I would just use different balloons for the final test.

Sukkah Blog Post Day 5

Describe how much easier/harder it was to bring the wood in when we were all working together. Include: how did it feel to work together, how were you communicating, how quickly things got done when we worked together

It was a lot easier when we had a system because the wood was heavy and took a long time when everyone lifted it by theirselfves. When 6th grade helped us it was soo much better and didn’t take us close to as long as it took by ourself.

We are drilling pilot holes into wood so we can screw the screws in

Sukkah Purchasing Day

1. Describe a situation when you collaborated well with your group yesterday (make sure to set the scene: what were you doing, what happened, how did you feel).

We collaborated well together at ReStore when we decided that we wanted to incorperate a giant whiteboard into our sukkah to be part of our wall. We had to work together to lift it, get a cart, and hold the cart still while we were putting it on. Also, at Lowe’s as me and Se21 were getting the wood while Es21 and Jw21 got carrage bolts and screws, me and Se21 relized that we had gone over budget and wouldn’t be able to get all the wood that we needed. My group and Bw21’s group (Bw21, Ak21, Mm21, and Og21) were each doing a wall however, they were the same walls with size and amount of wood that we would need so we got together to make things easier (because we needed to get the same things). When me and Se21 were getting wood, Bw21 and Ak21 were also getting wood so when we realized that we were over budget, we got them and tried to work it out together. I also went to get Es21 and Jw21 so we could explain our problem and try to figure it out. We got Adon Kaufman to help us and he told us that we needed even more wood than we thought we needed! With the wood we thought we needed, we were already over budget, so when we were told that we basically needed 10 more pieces of wood, we kind of freaked out. Me and Bw21 went to the side to try and figure out how much my group spent at ReStore (we knew the prices but there were a lot of discounts). We had spent almost a third of our budget at ReStore! In the end we had to end up shortening the length of our wall however we still didn’t have time to get plywood. We all went back to school hot and tired but thankfully 6th grade came to help us unload the wood from our bus.

2. Provide a specific example of a time when you did not collaborate well with your group yesterday (make sure to set the scene: what were you doing, what happened, how did you feel).

We did not collaborate well when we were loading the wood onto the bus. This was at ReStore and we were pushing the cart outside to the bus. We almost knocked the cart into a car and when we loading everything into the bus, we were confused on what to do so we argued a little (more like the whole class rather than just my group though).

3. For your specific example of your struggles, how would you change your behavior/actions next time so as to do better. Be specific on what you would do.

I would make sure that I was helping to steer the cart/load up the bus because those were the times we argued. For steering the cart, I would maybe go infront and help direct people towards the bus so they wouldn’t run into anything. For the bus, I would ask how to help rather than just guess and get it wrong and annoy people.

4. Explain how well you planned (what you need to buy and how much) and executed that plan (actually did what you said you were going to do).

Me and Se21 didn’t plan as much because we were working on washing the milk cartons for our decorations. I feel kind of bad for spending so much time doing that because that put us kind of behind. We didn’t plan very well because if you look at the first question you can see that we overestimated our budget and therefore went over it which just made a mess at Lowe’s.
