Year-End Tefilah Reflection

What were three of your favorite things we did in tefilah this year, and why?

Three things that we did in Tefilah that I liked were Glee-where we practiced songs and then led a Shabbat song thing- , Rosh-because one of our old teachers (that doesn’t work here anymore) visits and we can see him on Rosh Chodesh- and the last thing that I really liked was when the guest speakers came-because we got to do fun activities and learn about some disabilities. What were two of your least favorite things we did in tefilah this year, and why?

I didn’t really like it if/when the tefilahs got kind of long and we weren’t doing an activity. Also, “God Shopping” and the six letter memoir because for the six letter memoir, I couldn’t think of anything in time, and for “God Shopping” it was kind of hard to find paper slips that we liked.

We will have tefilah on the calendar again next year.  What would you like to keep or continue in tefilah?

I really liked the Rosh Chodesh and the objective things and I think it would be cool if we could do the same things, just maybe with different options for activities.

What would you like to have less of in tefilah?

I liked it better when we could chose our activities instead of all doing the same ones. Maybe we could do less of activities we did not chose, and more of the activities that we get to put input in.

What would you like to add to tefilah?

I would want there to be more guest speakers because we get to learn, and do fun activities.

If you were telling a student who was new to upper school about tefilah, and trying to get him/her excited about it, what would you share?

i would tell them about all the cool activity choices and the guest speakers because that’s what I like.

What other thoughts or ideas do you want to share about your tefilah experience this year?

Something that was kind of annoying was that we only got to be leader once, and most of us did not get to use the drums.

Biography Update

In ELA class, we are writing biographies. This is a update on my biography. I know that there is nothing else about my biography on this blog, and it might be weird calling it Biography Update, but we’ve actually been working on these biographies for a while, so it’s kind of like a update for us if that makes sense. So anyways, here is my biography update!

The Subject of My Biography:

I am writing a biography about Pleasant T. Rowland (the person who started Pleasant Company!)

Why I chose this subject:

I wanted to write about Pleasant T. Rowland because I LOVE American Girl dolls and it would be cool to learn more about how they started.

Here Is a Sneak peak of  The Introduction:

You may know what AG dolls are. You know, American Girl Dolls? You may think that Mattel started AG, but you are wrong! I will be telling the story how they actually started.

Element of biography I want to make sure I include and why:

I want to make sure that I have good descriptive detail so that the reader can understand what I’m writing better and so they can feel like they are there.

Jewish Studies Midrash

This is the questions I answered about the midrash:

What is a explanation of what this method is and what it means:

This method is saying that god said both words-remember and observe-at the same time and either Moses only heard one or he just only wrote down one and told the Jews the other one later. I also like midrashes in general because they are fun.

Why do I like the method/midrash:

I like this midrash because it explained why it was different in Deuteronomy and what a possible explanation is for it being different was so people wouldn’t be confused or anything like that.

What is wrong with this method/ what don’t I like about it:

It said that Moses heard both, but only wrote down one and told the Jews the other one later. This doesn’t make sense because how would he hear two things at once? And if he did, couldn’t he just write down both? He could have written something like: Observe AND remember Shabbat. Also why would he need to tell the Jews the other version? They could probably only hear one version, so Moses telling them another version might make them really confused or they could even get mad at Moses!
