7th Grade One Pager Summer Reading Assessment

Here is a Photo of My One Pager:

  1. Explain three choices you made on your one pager which show your comprehension of the book or what you learned from the book. The first choice I made was to make three different sections, one for each character. This represented each of their view points and life’s in a unique way. The second choice I made was to do a question and answer section where I answered many questions that I thought I hadnt answered in any other part of my project, but that were still important to answer. Lastly, I made different boxes showing themes of the book and my opinion/view points. Then I pointed those themes with arrows towards each character. This shows how the themes connect the characters together and create the story “The Beauty that Remains”.
  2. Explain how you used color on your one pager. I used color in my one pager by coloring in each character’s bad quote in the start of the book red and then how they changed their attitude towards the end of the book green to show their growth throughout the story. I also colored in the boxes and charcters to make the page more exciting!
  3. Explain two pieces of textual evidence and why you choose that text for your one pager. I chose a quote talking about how this girl is not able to move on because she just had a big loss but towards the end of the book she starts to realize that she will be okay, things are just different. I chose this because it really shows this character’s growth throughout the story and how she became the person she is through hard times and loss. Another quote I chose was talking about how a boys thinks his ex-boyfriend’s death was his fault, but now he realized it doesnt matter, because the point is that hes gone. I chose this quote because it shows this characters growth throughout the story realizing you can never control how or when others die, just how you help them and impact their life.
  4. Which learning goal did you do your best work on? Which one do you find challenging? Why? I feel that I did my best work on “I can follow directions” and “I can manage my time well”. I say this because I got the work done in time and I followed the directions given to complete the work. I find the “I can summarize text” the hardest because I love to talk and write a lot and summarizing is the opposite of that. Although, I feel that I did a pretty good job summarizing on my one pager.

Book Club One Refection

What is one new idea from book club?
A new idea from bookclub is that I never realized that one of the main themes could be, just like in “Remember the Titans” sports can bring people together. I say this because right now Griff and Eric are not really friends but I feel that because Eric likes basketball and the first scene of the book was in a baksetball court, usually the first scene of books (that Ive read) becomes a key place and usually at the end to show character change.
What is the most interesting part of your book(in your opinion)?
The most interesting part of my book in my opinion is that Griff is two faced. What I mean by this is that when Griff is in the lunchroom and he asks about a teacher’s summer and she said that her dog dies. Griff pretends to be sorry but then when the teacher left, Griff told Eric that he didnt really care about the dog and what the teacher had said. Here I learned what kind of a character Griff is because yes I did learn about other characters and their traits but it never said it in a dialouge form.
In the discussion next time, how can you grow as a collaborator by?

Not interupting as much(because I feel that I might have interuppted too much). Also, giving even more evidence than before to make my claim stronger. Lastly, I want to work on(if I am recorder next time) recording while listening, rather than writing some of the answers after we are done talking about the question.

Podcast Review

Im going to share a review on the podcast “Why Do We Have Daylight Savings”?. The producers of this podcast are Jane Lindholm and Melody Bodette. The genere of this podcast is Non-Fiction. This podcast was about why we have daylight savings and what it does for our planet and how it works. For example the reason why we have daylight savings is because of how the sun works and where it goes and thats why we have daylight savings. I think this podacst was very credible because the people who talked one of them was an author of a book about daylight savings and the other person hade a lot of backround information on this subject. I liked this podcast with evidence because it sounded more trusting and it was more educational. I would recommend the podcast to anyone who likes learning about time and how the earth works with time. I liked what the podcast was talking about but it was really hard for me to focus because there was nothing to look at. As a learner I need visuals in front of me to help me understand and concentrate more on what Im doing. Overall I would give this a 5 out of 5 because it was educational but entertaining and fun at the same time.

Biography Update

Subject of Biography:My Mom

Why I chose this subject:I chose this subject because my mom is very close to me and I wanted to write about her and her life. I also wanted it to be a mothers day gift but clearly that isnt happening this year for ovious reasons!

Sneak peak of Introduction:Susan Michelle Boyer was born on February 4th 1974 in Morton Grove,Illinois to Sandra and Arthur Boyer. Her sister Marcia,2 and a half years older was very excited about the new edition to the family and so were her parents! This would be just the start of her life journey….

Element of biography I want to make sure I include and why: I want to include pictures so that people are actually able to visulaize my moms life in their mentally and physically. I also want to add in as many dates as possible so that people know exactly when something happend and can “Track Down Time”.

Conflict in Fiction Tutorial

Here is a Video That Me and My Group Did on Different Types of Conflicts(ENJOY):

Reflection about Conflicts:

Think about a book you’re reading now or one you’ve read recently. What type of conflict occurred in the story? Describe it using specific details from the text: I read ” I Survived the Nazi Invasion ,1944 from the I Survived Series”.The main conflict was that there was this boy and girl and they were siblings and they escaped a ghetto and then they were trying to defend themselves and they even killed some Nazi’s! But the conflict was that the brother got shot by a gun and the sister also got hurt so they couldn’t go as fast and they needed to go because of all the bombing in the forest so they couldn’t defend themselves.

How did it move the rest of the story along? Well then there were people in the forest who helped them and one of them happend to be their cousin who they were looking for but anyways then both kids got better and they all helped defend against the Nazi’s and found out secrets because of the boy and girl that would help them. Then they also found their dad who they had also been looking for and then they all went to America after the Holocaust and were free and safe but they never found their mom.

Was the conflict resolved? How? If not, how do you think it will be resolved? Yes and I just explained that above.

MPM Reflection

    • Which of the 10 exhibits we visited was your favorite? Why?
    • My favorite exhibit that we visited was “Old Milwaukee” because I love history and I love learning about different people in the world and who came to Milwaukee for their different and interesting reasons.
    • What is one new thing you learned at the museum yesterday?
    • One new thing I learned at the Museum yesterday is that people who live in Japan are almost like ‘Munks” in a way. What I mean by this is that a lot of people who live in Japan are very simple and they ONLY have what they need, not what they want. They also spend a lot of their time being mindful and doing yoga and meditating.(Also not ALL people who live in Japan do this, only some people do)I wonder if the people who do this,do this all day in Japan?!I also wonder what their daily routine would be like?!
    • Which exhibit do you think you’ll highlight in your poem? Why?
    • I think I will highlight “Old Milwaukee” or the “Butterfly Room” because for Old Milwaukee I love history and people’s stories behind why they came to Milwaukee and I would also do the Butterfly room because butterflies in my opinion are just so pretty and GRACEFUL and they all come in such cool sizes, shapes, and colors!
