Programming Hannukah Card Reflection

1. We were so post to make a Hannukah card with the coding program “scratch”. There are a lot of different “codes” that you can do to the “sprite” (the little object in the “scratch”). You can put multiple backdrops and sprites. The codes are there to control what the backdrop(s) and sprite(s) do.

2.I am a little above a novice because we have used scratch in the past for a Hannuakh card that was about a year ago, and a few other times in math/science last year Im pretty sure.

3.What was easy was that I knew how to get a sprite and backdrop and I actually remembered my username! What was challenging was that it was hard to make two sprites go at once, so instead my second sprite was just there for “decoration”/backround. In the future, I would like to learn how to fix that. Lastly, it was hard to get the sprite to do a lot of different moves because when I would make it do something that only lasted about 0.2 seconds so I had to make a lot to make it last about 30 seconds!

4.I learned that making a half decent scratch takes time and you arent going to maybe get it right the first time you do it.

5.Here is a link for my card:

5.All you need to do is press the green flag and then sit back, and watch it! Enjoy!

Rapunzel Challenge:Building Reflection

What about the building process was challenging?

Our zipline wasnt working so well because Rapunzel was weighing it down, but then we realized that it didnt look so bad and her weight would help move the zipline on its own! Also, all the materials we needed were not all available to use so we used other materials which worked pretty well instead. (Yes, we will change our material section of our planning packet).

How did your build differ from your plan?

We added in fairy lights for fun! Also, we added in a zip line for the princess to help her get down from the tower faster and in a more exciting way! We still have the tree for her to go down as a back-up if this doesnt work out.(Yes, we will add this information into our packet).

How did your group work well together during the build? What would you do again?

I think we all did our group assigned role really well and we used a lot of creativity. We also, thought of new ideas along the way. Lastly, we had fun!

How did your group struggle during the build? What would you change?

I think some people were done with their group role(what they needed to do) a little earlier than others and they didnt know what to do, so we would try to help them and give them jobs. Sometimes there was really not something for them to help with, so instead they would get off task(I dont blame them) or we would ask for help and they would not listen. I think next time what I could differently is ask them to help me with something because I am not good at asking someone for help/being specific on what I need from them.

Explorers Project Reflection

What about this project went well for you?

When I used “wikepedia” as a site, I would always look at the sources below and make sure that those were credible(and they were)! Also we had tons of time to have our project finished(About 3-4 weeks). Lastly, the rubric was very clear and detailed telling us things like how many sites we need and how to make sure our project will be succesful!

What about this project did not go well for you?

I feel that I might have used a little to much of the “thinking outside the box” approach. What I mean by this is that there was some information on John Cabot(which is who I researched) but not a ton. That was probably because he lived over 400 years. Instead, I had to use the information that I already knew and put in more information based on that. For example, when I figured out that John Cabot discovered the Coastal part of North America I had to use prior knowledge to figure out that there was a lot of water which means that they have tons of water to drink, probably fish to eat, and lots of jobs based on that.I guess this maybe was a good learning experience/opportunity but at the same time, kind of frusterating and maybe we could of had a bit more guidence is what Im trying to say.

How can you create a better project next time?

Maybe instead of doing a google slide presentation, I can do something more exciting like a video or skit and go out of my comfort zone that way because I dont love doing thing like that. Or maybe I could still do a google slide, maybe just not put so many words on the screen at once and instead put more key notes of what to say and more visuals instead to make it more interesting and exciting to look at!

How did you think the planning process went? Were you able to find all the information you needed?

As I already said above, the reason why I couldnt find so much information was because this happened a long time ago, but then I think it became more fun that way as well. What I mean by that is because I didnt have so much informtaion I could be more free and less structred with my ideas and be creative still using key information to guide me.

What could Adon Kaufman and Gev. Noorlander do differently next time?

Maybe the teachers could warn us that there might be very limited information  on our project on the internet. I do appreciate the webistes the teachers gave us online but maybe next time there could be a book so we could explore it more and maybe there would be more accurate infomrtion because both the sites the teachers gave us to help us, didnt have all the explorers information on them.

What impact did explorers make?

They found new lands and some even went around the whole world! Also some of them made other people famous because for example Sacagawea went with Lewis and Clark on their journey and she became famous that way! Lastly, they have helped us to discover not only new lands, but new materials and such in the new lands and have given us more room to spread out ourselves. If it wernt for them, the world would have been totally different!

Dissection Reflection

What is the value of dissecting?

The value of dissecting(at least in this situation) was to figure out whats inside and outside a orginism’s body and why that is invasive or why because of their body structure they are invasive to other organisms.

How did the dissection help you understand what is happening between the sea lamprey and the trout?

It helped me to understand because I was able to look inside and outside their bodies and see how for example how they move so I can know how fast Trout can escape from Sea Lamprey. Also by their teeth, because you could see how sharp they are, and they can use those teeth bite Trout if they are the Sea Lamprey or the opposite.

How did you feel about dissection? If you enjoyed the process, why did you enjoy it? If you did not enjoy it, what was difficult about it?

I think in the begining I was scared about it but then I got a little more comfortable as I went along. I think I also overacted a little bit. Although, it was a bit challenging to actually open up the fish even with a very sharp scissors since their very sturdy and fragile.

Rapunzel Challenge:Planning Reflection

How did spending more time on planning improve your final blueprint?

It helped because we got more ideas from each other to improve our ideas, plus we understood the challenge more as we went along in it.

How did your group come to one final plan after brainstorming several ideas?

We combined all of our ideas together and heard each others ideas and thoughts.

Why do you think taking more time to plan was important?

I think it was important so we could see what we were missing and we kind of overheard other groups ideas and that helped us with our idea as well.

Did brainstorming with multiple people help you come up with more ideas? How?

Yes, because when you just have your idea, its one idea but when you have a lot of people’s ideas, its different ideas which makes you think of something new as well. Lastly, it helps me to not write as much because sometimes my group and I are all talking a lot at the same time so I just write down the main idea of what were saying instead of writing down too much.

What would you differently during the planning process next time?

Maybe I would make my drawing a little less detailed and not spend so much time on it so I could spend more time on my writing component of the project.
