The designated Hitter (DH) is a rule in the American League (AL) where there is a player that will hit for the pitcher. There is not a DH rule in the National League (NL).

I think that it is imperative that the MLB should abolish the DH rule. No player should be exempt from playing offence and defence.

                                        The 5 tool player

To be a 5 tool player you need to be able to hit for power, hit for average, run, field and throw. When you are DH you have the opportunity to have 3 of those, hit for power, hit for average and running. It affects baseball because teams with a 5 tool player will spend more money on that player and their contract. It will eventually ruin baseball because that team will continue to sign good players. Then that team will always make it to the playoffs. (kind of like the Yankees)

                                      Pitchers can hit

There are at least 3 pitchers right now that can hit just in the NL (national league). Here are the players and their career batting stats.

  Noah Syndergaard: In 5 years, In 111 games hitting, Noah had 222 at-bats, 14 runs, 37 hits, 7 doubles, 0 triples, 6 home runs, 15 RBI’s ( runs batted in), 15 walks, 144 strikeouts, .153 batting average, .206 OBP and .472 OPS.

    Here is Brandon Woodruff’s stats In 2 years, 51 games, 63 at-bats, 5 runs, 16 hits, 4 doubles, 0 triples, 2 home runs, 5 RBI’s, 3 walks, 23 strikes.

    Madison Bumgardner’s stats, In just 288 games,  594 at-bats, 51 runs, 105 hits, 18 doubles, 0 triples, 19 home runs, 62 RBI’s, 40 walks, 255 strikeouts, .177 batting average, .228 OBP and .532 OBS.

If pitchers in the NL can hit why should it be different for pitchers in the AL.

                            Why should it be different?

If all players have to hit, then  why should it be different for the pitcher? Let’s say if every player had to hit except your best hitter.

Imagine if the NFL’s NFC teams had to kick off from the 35 yard line while the AFC teams kicked from the 30 yard line. Imagine if the Western conference teams of the NBA had different rules than the Eastern conference, or if some NHL teams weren’t allowed to pull their goalie.

Removing the DH will force all pitchers to hit, and increases a chance for pitchers to have greatness but from the bat!

                                      Argument

Well if a player wants to take a break from the field but wants to hit: They make them a PH (Pinch Hitter).

A lot of NL teams do not have a player that cannot or  afford DH: Well then trade a lot of players that the teams do not need for cash then buy a DH.

                                          I think that the

                                          MLB should

                                           Ban the DH

                                           For all those

                                              Reasons.
