7th One Pager Summer Reading Assessment

  1. Explain three choices you made on your one pager which show your comprehension of the book or what you learned from the book. One choice I made on my project was to put a lot of picture, with quotes, that were kind like mini comic strips, just only one box. I made this choice because it shows I understood what happened in the book because the quotes were things that they said in the book, which shows that I understood what they said. And the mini comic boxes showed that I understood what was happening in the book. Another choice I made on my project was to put extra quotes, and comic strips. I made this choice because it shows I learned how to do sketch notes, and how to do quotes. Another reason that I made this choice because it shows I understood what happened in the book. A third choice I made on my project was to say my opinion of the beginning of the book. I said how I think that it’s a little hard to understand at the beginning of the book. I think that I didn’t really understand it was because there were a lot of characters that the author was introducing. I made this choice because it shows I learned that even if at the beginning of a book you really don’t understand what’s happening big time, you just have to push yourself to keep reading, because later in the book chances are you’ll start to like it, and understand it.
  2. Explain how you used color on your one pager. I used color on my one pager to make stuff stand out because I think that that helps whoever reads it understand whats important to read or not to read. I also used color to show whoever reads it to know what’s positive, and/or whats negative. I also used color, and different shades of pencil for border lines and to separate different topics or/and different quotes, mini comic boxes, themes… etc.
  3. Explain two pieces of textual evidence and why you choose that text for your one pager. One piece of textual evidence was the quote that Sarah said at the beginning of the story. Which Was: “Tell no one, you’ve found her.” Another one is in the middle when Aunt Zelda screamed at Boy 412, and Jenna for getting on the Vengeance. The quote is: “YOU DID WHAT!!!”
  4. Which learning goal did you do your best work on? Which one do you find challenging? Summarizing the story without writing a formal summary. I think the most challenging one was noting key idea’s.

This is a picture of my one pager:

Book Club #1

1. One new idea from book club is a trait for Luke that one of my partners thought of which is curios.

2. The most interesting part of my book so far is when the government came to looks house and I thought that they were coming for him (Even though I was wrong), because that put me in suspense.

3. In discussion next time I can grow as a collaborator by learning more about the book that I’m doing which will give me more idea’s for traits, themes, etc.

Memoir Update

We’ve been working on writing memoirs in ELA for the past few weeks. Here is an update of what I’ve accomplished/learned at each stage of the writing process.

The part of the writing process for memoirs that has been the most comfortable for me has always been Drafting because Drafting is when you get to write your 1st version of your story beginning to end.

The part of the writing process for memoirs that has been the most challenging for me has always been Selecting because I have a big imagination which helps me come up with a bunch of great Idea’s which makes it really hard to choose which idea I want to write about. But I still love my imagination.

Immersion

I’ve learned the characteristics of a memoir include: All Memoirs are memories. Most Memoirs are very short stories. Most Memoirs focus on small moments in your life.

I think the characteristic I really want to focus on in my writing is when I was playing the drums when I was 2 years old and when I hit a grand slam in a playoff game because both of those memories are very valuable and I will remember them for the rest of my life.

My favorite memoir mentor text was… because the author…

I don’t really have a favorite memoir mentor text because none of the memoir books that we read in class were very interesting.

Generating Ideas/Selecting

Why do you want to share this idea/story with others? I want to share them because I think that they are good idea’s.

What emotions do you want your reader to feel as they read your memoir? I want their emotions to be excited and I want to put them suspense.

Drafting

Here is my first draft:

P.S sorry that it’s not complete in the picture because the rest of the story was going around a whole different story.

One thing I think I did really well is put the reader in suspense because at the end I think that it is very exciting.

As I head into editing and revising, one thing I want to focus on is making my story more exciting because then the reader will enjoy it more.

Stay tuned for another post soon as I work on revising my first draft. If you have any SHE (specific, helpful, empathetic) feedback, please leave it as a comment!

Conflict in Fiction Tutorial

Think about a book you’re reading now or one you’ve read recently. What type of conflict occurred in the story? Describe it using specific details from the text.

The book that I am reading now is called: “The Lost Hero” By Rick Riordan. The Conflict is that monsters are coming back from the pit of underworld. My evidence from the text is: “Jason, your supposed to be dead!” This must be because monsters are starting to come back from the Underworld from the pit of Tartarus.  This is character vs society because everyone is against the group of monsters.

Was the conflict resolved? How? If not, how do you think it will be resolved?

I think they’ll put  Hades back in charge of the underworld which would stop the monsters from getting out of the pit.
