Newspaper Shoe Challenge

Today’s Challenge: Using only newspaper, 24 inches of tape, and one scissors, you and your partner need to create one shoe that fits either you or your partner’s foot. The shoe must be able to come on and off without falling apart.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Communication):

My goal for communication today within my team is to not get mad because I know if i get mad I get controlling and I get annoying.

My Individual Plan <insert photo of sketch and/or type out plan> My plan is to make the shoe on my partners foot to know what size to make it and I also want to try to make a heel because it sounds like a challenge to make a heel with newspaper. We are going to try to make it by starting with a newspaper base and build walls and roll up a piece to make the heel and tape it to the flat shaped shoe.

Why I think my plan will be successful because its going to be a challenge but its going to fun and my group and I are going to have to work together to make it work.

Our Group’s Plan <insert photo or sketch and/or type out plan> Our plan is to make an ancel boot heel because S’s idea was to make a boot and O’s idea was to make a heel. We are going to make this by starting with a newspaper base and build walls and roll up a piece to make the heel and tape it to the flat shaped shoe.

We chose this plan because its my partners idea and my idea.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction…

Each partner will be responsible for having my foot being used to make the shoe and my partner helping me make the shoe.

After the Build

Our design worked well because we worked together to make the shoe.

Balloon Challenge Day 3

HL: Documenting

SM and OC: Building the boat

Boat Day Three

OC and SM took our cut milk carton from yesterday and blew up a new balloon with the straw.

Then we put it into the water a let go of the ballon.

It moved a little but we still need to figure out how to make it move all the way across the basin.

OC got it to move the second time we tried!

SM decided to take pictures of are process.

YAY!! It worked.

What worked was that after we flipped the balloon around, it floated better.

  4. OC cut a tiny hole in the back of the boat
  5. OC put a straw in the balloon and tried it in with a rubber band
  6. OC blew up the balloon from a straw
  7. SM also did what OC did
  8. SM and OC put the blown up ballon with the straw into the milk carton
  9. SM and OC put the boat in the water and… it did not work so well.

Procedure:

First we covered the table in newspaper so that the table does not get dirty or damaged.  Then we took the chicken and took the powder in the inside and outside of the chicken off and out. Then we rubbed the chicken so the old mixture would go off.Now we took our baking soda and we used 5 cups of baking soda and 5 cups of salt and we mixed it together to make the mixture. Then we took the mixture and put the mixture and put it in the inside and out. Then we just pretty much bury the chicken in it.Then we took our scents (Ground Cloves and ground nutmeg) and we put it on the chicken  and inside the chicken so that it does not smell nearly as bad. Then we took the chicken back to the window sill and we wait till another week before we do this again for the LAST TIME!

Our Senses with Chickens:

Sight: “It looks like it almost all around has black and blue marks and looks like a giant bruise and looks a lot smaller than last time.

Touch: “It feels like a dry hard rock”

Smell: “It smells like squirrel who was dying from skunk smell”

“Were using Ground cloves and Ground nutmeg to keep the smell from turning disgusting”

Art Museum Trip 11/15

I learned about the black death which is a disease that killed people. Another one is a Greek herb that first you had to pay for it then you had to mix it with wine or water and then you drink the mixture and it kills you.  One more is that I learned that there is different kinds of art.

I wonder what we are going to learn next and I wonder why Christianity was the most popular back then?

I am most excited for one of the Georgia O’ Keefe.

CER Reflection

  1. I am proud of making my first paper airplane and even though it was really hard I got through it and got the work done. I am proud of persevering.
  2. I struggled with making the airplanes because I never made an airplane before and  it was tricky folding the paper and measuring because I have never measured thing like that.
  3. I am satisfied with that I tried and I did not  give up even though I wanted to because I couldn’t fold the paper.
  4. I was frustrated with that I couldn’t make a airplane because I couldn’t fold the paper.
