Every Monday, we start class off with a little warm-up. We examine a photo from the New York Times Photo of the Week, looking at what is happening in the photo. We try our hardest to discriminate between what we THINK is happening versus what we KNOW is happening versus what we SEE is happening. At the end of the week, we have the big reveal so as to see how many of us actually got it right (a surprisingly low number of us guess correctly…rushing to judgement clearly does not always pay off). It is amazingly interesting seeing responses and teaching students to try to examine thing from another perspective. Below are the photos we have done already:
