Sukkah Building – All done

We spent 26 total class periods working on the Sukkah this year so far.  That includes planning, modeling, purchasing, construction, decoration, a bit of crying, and celebration.  If you did not get a chance to see our wonderful creation, check out some of the photos below to view it all (or visit this link to view all our photos)

Sukkah Building – Day 1 of Construction

After creating a list of what needs to be done and by when, we started off in the Makerspace to begin our building process of our Sukkah.  It has been an amazing experience thus far; with day one (three classes mind you), we completed one wall section (8 foot x 8 foot) and nearly completed another.  Below are a few photos from our successful day.

Sukkah Building – Day 2

We learned how to use hammers and nails, drills and screws, and to clean up after ourselves (took a lot longer on that last one).  We officially have two 8 foot x 8 foot wall sections done!  We are now in the process of working a few more.  Today was also a day of decoration; working on painting our refurbished window shutters and flower pots.  Below are a few photos from our successful day.

Sukkah Building – Buying our materials

After creating numerous models and having countless debates, we narrowed down what we need exactly.  We had our supply list needed and headed out the door to ReStore Wauwatosa, which is a part of Habitat for Humanity.  Part of their mission is to provide a home for anyone in the Milwaukee area that does not have access to safe, acceptable housing.  Part of how they fund that mission is by selling used/second hand building materials.  We went to ReStore to find what we could re-purpose for our Sukkah (after all, we are trying to make the world a better place and reusing instead of purchasing new is a part of that).  After searching for second-hand goods we could use, we headed over to Home Depot to purchase the remainder of our materials.  Special thanks to Laura G. and Hannah S. for taking the time to help transport our students (and materials).  Below are a few photos from our successful day.
