Birdhouse visit

On Friday, December 1, we were gifted the opportunity to visit The United Community Center, which was hosting Here We Make Our Home (our birdhouse project).  We witnessed the musical band Sol e Mar perform (and some of us got to participate with the band, which was an amazing experience).  We also got to tour the art exhibit, looking at our own birdhouses and sharing in the journey of other students from the area.  It was amazing to see all our combined efforts and how everyone represents their own journeys.  Please click on the link provided to view our photos from the event.

Our journey…via birdhouses

As part of our ongoing collaboration with Milwaukee College Prep and Bruce Guadalupe, we are participating in a local art showcase.  Every year, Bruce Guadalupe hosts an art show in which students create some piece of art that tells a story about themselves and is shown off to the local community.  This year, the theme of the art show is “Birdhouses and one’s journey.”  Students are to express their journey in the shape/form of a birdhouse.

Our 8th grade students are hard at creating a birdhouse that represents who they are from three perspectives: who they are as Americans/citizens, who they are as immigrants/a family, and who they are as Jews.  The direction they are taking to express who they are is incredibly diverse and amazing to see.  At the end, it will be amazing to see how they chose to represent themselves and how their birdhouse will turn out.  Feel free to explore this project at this link.
