What did you like most about our Non fiction study? I think I like reading all of the books that we read  then Gev. Denny talking about new things that we learned. An example for one book we were compering it to another book and after we talked about one of the books had photographs and the other one had illustrations.  Do I think that I did a good job of including detailed information in my final piece? Yes one of the  facts ” A Bonobo likes the temperature 68 to 86 degrees Celsius. Another example would be I had a lot of text features.  Here are a few. I had a table of contents, definitions and photographs.  What structure did you choose for your Non fiction Writing piece?  I used description. It is description because I am describing just about Bonobos.  What new writing skills, strategies, or techniques  did you learn during this study?  Something new  things that I learned is   introduction topics. Some new ones that I learned are Evoke a emotional response and using a quote. Those are both things that I used in my Non Fiction Writing piece. I also learned that you can use more than one introduction topic. I use to think that that for a introduction you just say what your book is about.

Where did my moms family immigrate from? My mom immigrated from Israel. How did they get to the U.S.? My family got here by plane. What are some differences from what I have learned about M.K.E ? Some differences are that there were Irish immigrants, British and Scottish and my family immigrated from Israel.

Today in class we did a role playing activity about the March on Washington.   I am a elderly African American grandparent. My family works on a farm in Illinois.  My character is not rich but has food to eat.  Even though coming to Washington would be difficult and expensive I would go.  I would go because I believe everyone deserves equal rights.  I also feel that everyone should be able to have jobs and go to the same school no matter what their skin color or gender is.

1 How many  responses do I have? I have 37 reader’s responses in my notebook. Do I have between 2 to 3 responses a week? Yes I do have 2 to 3 responses a week.  Do I have different types of entries?  Yes I have a summery, list of characters, connections, K.W.L, stop and jot, New words, Inferences, character sketch, predictions, answering questions, interesting facts, and figuring out words.  Do I have more than one type of entry per book? Yes I do because on one book about Gems I did asking questions  and answering them.  With the same gem book I did stop and sketch and new facts that I learned.  How are my responses helping me gain a deeper understanding of what I am reading? For example when I do a list of characters it helps me understand the characters more so I can keep track of there personality traits.   What do I do well in my Reader’s notebook? I think I am good at having different kinds of responses in notebook. What do I need to work on? What can my teacher do to help me? I think I need to work on doing more stop and sketches.  I think that my teacher can help me by reminding me that I have to work on stop and sketches.

For school we are doing one word goals. My one word goal is to be careful.  One meaning  is for being physically careful.  So I don’t get hurt like I did yesterday when I got stitches on my thigh. It is also for my work because I want to be careful when I am doing my work. I will work towards it by slowing down, listen to all directions, and checking my work.
