Expect Nothing- Appreciate Everything- Thank YOU!

To my wonderful students and parents,

Wow! I can’t even put into words how thankful I am for your extremely generous end of year gift. This year was very special to me, for many reasons, and I am so thankful that I was able to share it with all of you.

To my students: It has been a fantastic school year. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to teach each of you. You and your families helped to make my tenth year at MJDS a wonderful one. Each of you are bright, kind and eager to learn. It is amazing to me how much you have all grown, in so many different ways, over the year.

To my parents: Thank you for all that you have done this year, and for thinking of me now. Your support, dedication to your children, and kind words have helped to make this year so successful. We could not have made it this far without you.

I will truly miss seeing each of your smiling faces over the summer. Good luck in 6th grade, can’t wait to see you in the fall!

Love,

Gev. Kimmel

Shark Tank Here We Come!

After working diligently with Gev. Clyde throughout all of fourth quarter, and wrapping up with me over the past two weeks, the 5th graders were able to share their inventions and presentations! Kindergarten through Sixth grade visited our classroom as we proudly shared weeks of handwork and creativity.

The best part was what the fifth graders shared about their experience…

” I learned that patience is really hard. This project taught me how to persevere and have grit.”

” I learned that it is OK to have multiple drafts. My project failed several times. I asked for help, even though I didn’t want to, and it was worth it.”

” This project pushed me to have a growth mindset and be patient with myself and others.”

Inventions came home today and presentations can easily be shared at home!

A Few Reminders and Requests

Tomorrow is June 1st…JUNE FIRST! How is this possible? With so many amazing memories and tremendous growth, the year has flown by! As we approach our last few days, I have a few reminders and requests:

  • All library books are now due. Students who have not turned in or paid for missing books will not receive a year book.
  • Please wear orange to school on Friday, June 1, to support national end-gun violence day. For anyone who does not have orange clothing, I will have orange yarn and/or ribbon in the morning so all can participate.
  • On Monday, please remind your child to wear his/her team color for FIELD DAY!!
  • In addition, I’ve asked the kids to bring sunscreen to school as we will spend most of our Monday afternoon outside participating in fun relay activities.
  • MJDS will provide lunch in honor of field day on Monday. If your child is not a fan of hot dogs, please pack lunch as normal! With that being said, our hot lunch program officially ends tomorrow! Students are expected to bring lunch Tuesday-Thursday of next week.
  • Fifth graders should bring at least THREE bags to school by TUESDAY for locker clean out. We will clean out lockers on Tuesday or Wednesday. They do not have to bring anything to school on Thursday except a lunch and a kippah.
  • If you have not attended an MJDS graduation ceremony, please consider joining us next Thursday at Congregation Emanuel. It is a highlight of the year as each 8th grader will speak about their experience at MJDS. It is like no other graduation ceremony I’ve ever attended!
  • Students participating in graduation choir should wear dark bottoms and white tops to graduation. If you have further questions, please contact Gev. Wendy Cohen.

Phew! I think that is it…for now! I am sure more reminders will come your way. Please let me know if you have any questions. I know it is going to be an exciting and strong finish to our school year.
