In case you did not hear…Our warm up for class today was a fun game of hangman…Your kiddos nailed it!
They welcomed the news with cheers, hugs and a few questions! I am thrilled to be able to finally share the news with my MJDS family! 🙂
Fifth and Sixth grade had a blast celebrating Israel’s Birthday today. We spent the day visiting with two Israelis, making Israeli desserts, eating traditional Israeli falafel, Israeli Dancing and “training” for the IDF! I was proud of how beautifully the two grades meshed, having fun while learning more about the Jewish Homeland. Please ask your child about his/her fun & educational day–I am sure they will have a lot to share!
Shabbat Shalom
Last week, students read like detectives, reading closely to learn about the similarities and differences between the ancient Greece city-states, Athens and Sparta. The class had various opinions about the way women and slaves were treated as well as the different approaches to government. Today I asked the class which city-state they would move to and why. They were asked to respond by creating a travel brochure for the city-state of his/her choice, highlighting the pros of either Athens or Sparta. Using Canva.com, the kids will spend the next few days showcasing their knew knowledge of each city-state and persuading me to go along with them. Stay tuned for their final products!
Upper school will attend a Yom Hashaoh program tomorrow. In honor of Holocaust remembrance day, please have your child wear dark pants and a white top to school.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
For the next few weeks, we will be studying the genre of biography in writing workshop. During this study, we will read and listen to many biographies and discuss what biographies are, including their purpose and features. This information will empower students to write their own biographies as they work through the writing process- generating ideas, collecting research, note taking, and drafting as well as revising and editing.
During the course of the study, you can support our work in the following ways:
As always, your help will be greatly appreciated!
